I think if defense were better represented in the box score the opinion might be different but his offensive numbers were the best overall. - John Gillon’s first half trey ended the longest drought at the beginning of a half we’ve had all year (16:36). The previous longest scoring stretch was the first half of the Pitt game, which Taurean Thompson ended with a jumper at the 17:08 mark. - This was the first game where we’d won the battle of the boards since the Florida State game. We got 12 offensive rebounds, 40% . But we also dominated the defensive boards. Clemson had only 6 offensive rebounds, (22.2%), the lowest for an SU opponent in in the last 8 games, (strangely, it was Virginia Tech, who easily beat us, who did worse at 21.9%). - In a game we won by one point on a buzzer shot, we got 26 points in unsettled situation, (second chance + off turners) and they only got 18). The second half second chance points were 12-2. - - It was the second straight game we’d hit more than 60% of our two point shots, (the stat that most correlates to winning). Unfortunately we also gave up over 60% so we had to win the game with our rebounding and that final three. In the five game winning streak we are 84 for 150 from two, ((56.0%). Our opposition is 85 for 162 (52.5%). But in the Dome they are 45 for 96 (46.9%) and on the road they are 40 for 66 (60.6%). For the conference season our opponents are 80 for 188, (42.6%) in the Dome and 126 for 217 on the road, ((58.1%). - We’ve been outscored in our initial sets, (First Chance Points) four times in our five game winning streak. We won that battle only in the NC State game, (56-33). In the other games we’ve been out-scored 139-183, 11 points per game. We were down 14-26 in second chance points vs. the Wolfpack but up 55-44 in the other games. It’s the same story in fast break points: 9-23 vs. NC State but 45-14 in the other games. We’ve out-scored opponents 93 points to 61 from the line. So that’s been the primary formula: beat teams down the court, hit the offensive boards and get to the line. We’d have a losing streak if we were going 5 on 5. - This was the second time I’ve ever seen a losing team lead in offensive efficiency, due to rounding. (82 points in 66 possessions = 1.242 vs. 81 in 65 = 1.246). But you could interpret the possessions differently. Syracuse: 57 - 12 + 13 + (.475 x 17) = 66.075. Clemson 54 - 6 + 6 + (.475 x 17) = 64.075. If I don’t round off: Syracuse 82/66.075 = 1.241. Clemson 81/64.075 = 1.264, so Clemson’s still ahead. But of course the possession formula is designed to produce an estimate anyway. This is a stat that is more meaningful for season stats or a conference games breakdown than for analyzing individual games. [/QUOTE]
