Elijah Hughes +17NP in 40 minutes = +24/76 = +12.6NP/40 for season
Marek Dolezaj +13NP in 24 minutes = +18/64 = +11.3NP/40 for season
Joe Girard +7NP in 19 minutes = +9/41 = +8.8NP/40 for season
Howard Washington +5NP in 7 minutes = +5/7 = 28.6NP/40 for season
Jesse Edwards +3NP in 12 minutes = +7/17 = +16.5NP/40 for season

TEAM STATS

Possession

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)
We rebounded 12 of our 27 misses = 44.4%
They rebounded 14 of their 42 misses = 33.3%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)
We got 7 points on 12 O-Rebs = 0.583 points/O-reb
They got 15 points on 14 O-Rebs = 1.071 points/O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)
We had 14 turnovers – 6 steals = 8 unforced
They had 15 turnovers – 9 steals = 6 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 27 points from 15 takeaways = 1.800 points/takeaway
They had 19 points from 14 takeaways = 1.357 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)
We had 34 points in 27 unsettled situations = 1.259 points
They had 34 points in 28 unsettled situations = 1.214 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
We had 42 + 15 = 57
They had 31 + 14 = 45

Hustle Stats
One of the radio sponsors gives an award to the team that had the most “hustle stats”, which they define as rebounds + steals + blocks. I decided to keep track of that, too:
We had 42 + 6 + 9 = 57
They had 31 + 4 + 6 = 41

Scoring

Shooting
(Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)
We were 21 for 38 on twos, (55.3%), 7 for 17 on threes (41.2%) and 7 for 12 on frees (58.3%)
They were 5 for 19 on twos, (26.3%), 13 for 41 on threes (31.7%) and 5 for 7 on frees (71.4%)
Combined percentages were: 1548 (553 + 412 + 583) vs. 1294 (263 + 317 + 714) = +254

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum”
POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made
OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots)
TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint)
FBP = fast break points
POTO= points off turnovers

We had 34 PIP, 29 POP, 21 OL, 8 TZ, 27 POTO, 16 FBP
They had 8 PIP, 41 POP, 39 OL, 2 TZ, 19 POTO, 0 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)
We scored 16 FBP in 45 opportunities (35.56%)
They scored 0 FBP in 27 opportunities (0.00%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)
We had 40 FCP and 7 SCP
They had 34 FCP and 15 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)
Our starters scored 51 points and our bench scored 19 points
Their starters scored 38 points and their bench scored 16 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)
We assisted 20 of our 28 field goals = 71.4%
They assisted 14 of their 18 field goals = 77.8%

Team Offensive Possession Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)
We scored 70 points in 63 possessions = 1.111 points/ possession
They scored 59 points in 64 possessions = 0.844 points/possession
It was a 127 possession game.

If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession:
We scored 70 points in 61 possessions = 1.147 points/ possession
They scored 54 points in 63 possessions = 0.857 points/possession

Team Shooting Efficiency

(Points minus missed field goals and free throws)

We scored 70 points, missed 27 field goals and 5 missed free throws = net +38
They scored 54 points, missed 42 field goals and 2 missed free throws = net +10

(Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot)

We scored 70 on 38 two point attempts, 17 three point attempts and 12 free throw attempts = 70 of a possible 139 points = 50.4% of possible points scored.
They scored 54 on 19 two point attempts, 41 three point attempts and 7 free throw attempts = 54 of a possible 168 points = 32.1% of possible points scored.

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

15-13, 16-12, 20-9, 19-20

Fouls

(Two point shots and free throws attempted per times fouled.)
We attempted 38 two point shots, attempted 12 free throws and were fouled 14 times = 2.71; 0.86
They attempted 19 two point shots, attempted 7 free throws and were fouled 11 times = 1.73; 0.64
They were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots. But we got more free throws out of our fouls, which suggests that more of the fouls we committed were possession fouls, rather than shooting fouls.

Comments

- An outlier stat was “Effective Offensive Rebounding”: We got 7 points on 12 O-Rebs = 0.583 points/O-reb. They got 15 points on 14 O-Rebs = 1.071 points/O-reb. That’s unusual in a game we dominated. Colgate did a lot more with the ball when they got the ball back off the boards.
- But we made up for it with points off turnovers: We had 27 points from 15 takeaways = 1.800 points/takeaway. They had 19 points from 14 takeaways = 1.357 points/takeaway. We did that because we ran: 16 Fast Break Points to 0.
- We went from 16-26 in “Points I the Paint” vs. Virginia to 34-8 vs. Colgate.
- The Raiders made up for that with 39 points off of treys to 21 but they missed 28 treys to do that. We only missed 10.
- We were 0- 6 from the Twilight Zone, (the area between the arc and the paint) vs. Virginia. We were 8-2 in that zone vs. Colgate. It’s normally an advantage for us.
- We went from assisting 7 of 13 made baskets to 20 of 28. That’s only an increase from 6 to 8 unassisted buckets. There’s no ‘I’ in team unless you spell it ‘tiem’.

i think some numbers for last night might be wrong. Goodine for instance. No big deal. Just looked low.

You are correct. I've corrected it. Thanks. I'm still getting used to these new (pdf) box scores on Cuse.com.
