I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.)
Net Points
(points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls)
Buddy Boeheim +20NP in 34 minutes = +40NP in 69 minutes = +23.2NP/40 for season
Cole Swider +19NP in 34 minutes = +38NP in 65 minutes = +23.4NP/40 for season
Jimmy Boeheim +13NP in 33 minutes = +32NP in 58 minutes = +22.1NP/40 for season
Joe Girard +12NP in 25 minutes = +39NP in 50 minutes = +31.2NP/40 for season
Jesse Edwards +12NP in 21 minutes = +23NP in 38 minutes = +24.2NP/40 for season
Frank Anselem +7NP in 16 minutes = +17NP in 33 minutes = +20.6NP/40 for season
Symir Torrence +6NP in 21 minutes = +7NP in 39 minutes = +7.2NP/40 for season
Benny Williams -2NP in 16 minutes = +5NP in 37 minutes = +5.4NP/40 for season
DNP coach’s decision
John Bol Ajak 0NP in 0 minutes = +5NP in 7 minutes = +28.5NP/40 for season
Chaz Owens 0NP in 0 minutes = 0NP in 0 minutes = 0.0NP/40 for season
Injured and couldn’t play
Bourama Sidibie 0NP in 0 minutes = 0NP in 0 minutes = 0.0NP/40 for season

Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog)
(Points plus assists)
Buddy Boeheim 23 points and 4 assists = 27
Shooting Efficiency
(Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts)
Buddy Boeheim 23 points – 8 mfg – 0 mft = +15
Scoring Efficiency
(Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points)
Joe Girard 11 points of 17 = 64.7%
My Man
(Who played the most minutes?)
Buddy Boeheim and Cole Swider 34 minutes
TEAM STATS
Possession
Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)
We rebounded 5 of our 26 misses = 19.2%
They rebounded 9 of their 30 misses = 30.0%
Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)
We got 5 points on 5 O-Rebs = 1.000 points/O-Reb
They got 9 points on 9 O-Rebs = 1.000 points/O-Reb
Points per Takeover
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 25 points from 20 takeovers = 1.250 points/takeaway
They had 22 points from 11 takeovers = 2.000 points/takeaway
Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)
We had 30 points in 25 unsettled situations = 1.200 points/situation
They had 31 points in 20 unsettled situations = 1.550 points/situation
Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
We had 26 + 20 = 46
They had 30 + 11 = 41
Scoring
Shooting
(Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)
We were 22 for 38 on twos, (57.9%), 8 for 16 on threes (50.0%) and 7 for 10 on frees (70.0%)
They were 12 for 25 on twos, (48.0%), 10 for 27 on threes (37.0%) and 6 for 6 on frees (100.00%)
Points
(PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum”
POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made
OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots)
TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint)
FT = Free Throws
We had 40 PIP, 28 POP, 24 OL, 4 TZ, 7FT
They had 16 PIP, 38 POP, 30 OL, 8 TZ, 6FT
Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)
We scored 15 FBP in 41 opportunities (36.6%)
They scored 4 FBP in 26 opportunities (15.4%)
First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)
We had 48 FCP and 5 SCP
They had 41 FCP and 9 SCP
Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)
Our starters scored 67 points and our bench scored 8 points.
Their starters scored 36 points and their bench scored 24 points.
Efficiency
Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)
We assisted 17 of our 30 field goals = 56.7%
They assisted 12 of their 22 field goals = 54.5%
Team Offensive Possession Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)
We scored 75 points in 65 possessions = 1.154 points/ possession
They scored 60 points in 66 possessions = 0.909 points/possession
It was a 131-possession game.
If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession:
We scored 75 points in 59 possessions = 1.271 points/ possession
They scored 60 points in 55 possessions = 1.091 points/possession
Team Shooting Efficiency
(Points minus missed field goals and free throws)
We scored 75 points, missed 24 field goals and missed 3 free throws = net +48
They scored 60 points, missed 30 field goals and missed 0 free throws = net +30
(Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot)
We scored 75 on 38 two-point attempts, 16 three-point attempts and 10 free throw attempts = 75 of a possible 134 points = 56.0% of possible points scored.
They scored 60 on 25 two-point attempts, 27 three-point attempts and 6 free throw attempts = 60 of a possible 137 points = 43.8% of possible points scored.
Fouls
(Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.)
We attempted 38 two-point shots and were fouled 8 times = 4.75
They attempted 25 two-point shots and were fouled 12 times = 2.08
At this rate, if they’d taken 38 two-point shots, we’d have been called for 18 fouls.
Comments
- If we have six guys average 20NP/40 this year, we should do pretty well.
- Who would have expected Joe Girard to lead in scoring efficiency?
- We are going to struggle if we rebound 19% of our misses against shorter teams. Our bigs need to realize that the more they get the ball, the more they will score. Isn’t scoring fun?
- In two games in our place, we’ve attempted 80 two points shots and drawn 22 fouls, (3.64) and our opposition has attempted 51 two point shots and drawn the same number of fouls: 22 (2.32).
