[QUOTE="SWC75, post: 4138724, member: 289"] I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.) Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Average net points/40 by position, (based on averaging 20+ minutes per game), since the 1980-81 season: Centers 18.6; Power Forwards: 18.4; Small Forwards: 16.1, Shooting Guards: 13.3; Point Guards: 13.5 Jesse Edwards +18NP in 31 minutes = +281NP in 547 minutes = +20.5NP/40 for season Symir Torrence +9NP in 25 minutes = +64NP in 237 minutes = +10.8NP/40 for season Frank Anselem +7NP in 8 minutes = +44NP in 180 minutes = +9.8NP/40 for season Cole Swider +7NP in 26 minutes = +229NP in 644 minutes = +14.2NP/40 for season Jimmy Boeheim +6NP in 37 minutes = +236NP in 654 minutes = +14.4NP/40 for season Joe Girard +3NP in 30 minutes = +233NP in 638 minutes = +14.6NP/40 for season Bourama Sidibie 0NP in 1 minutes = +1NP in 8 minutes = +5.0NP/40 for season John Bol Ajak 0NP in 3 minutes = +5NP in 20 minutes = +10.0NP/40 for season Buddy Boeheim 0NP in 32 minutes = +262NP in 715 minutes = +14.7NP/40 for season Benny Williams -1NP in 7 minutes = +14NP in 223 minutes = +2.5NP/40 for season DNP coach’s decision Chaz Owens 0NP in 0 minutes = +4NP in 4 minutes = +40.0NP/40 for season Injured or ill and couldn’t play None Suspended None Redshirting None (that we know of) Out for the year None Left Team None Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Jimmy Boeheim 12 points and 2 assists = 14 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts) Jesse Edwards 12 points – 2mfg – 1mft = +9 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Jesse Edwards 12 points of 17 = 70.6% My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Jimmy Boeheim 37 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 15 of our 47 misses = 31.9% They rebounded 13 of their 33 misses = 40.3% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 14 points on 15 O-Rebs = 0.933 points/O-Reb They got 16 points on 13 O-Rebs = 1.231 points/O-Reb Points per Takeover (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 13 points from 15 takeovers = 0.867 points/takeaway They had 20 points from 10 takeovers = 2.000 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 27 points in 30 unsettled situations = 0.900 points/situation They had 36 points in 23 unsettled situations = 1.565 points/situation Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 35 + 15 = 50 They had 45 + 10 = 55 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 19 for 39 on twos, (48.7%), 5 for 29 on threes (17.2%) and 6 for 12 on frees (50.0%) They were 16 for 26 on twos, (61.5%), 14 for 37 on threes (37.8%) and 5 for 7 on frees (71.4%) Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint) FT = Free Throws We had 30 PIP, 23 POP, 15 OL, 8 TZ, 6 FT They had 32 PIP, 42 POP, 42 OL, 0 TZ, 5 FT Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 3 FBP in 31 opportunities (9.7%) They scored 8 FBP in 41 opportunities (19.5%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 36 FCP and 14 SCP They had 50 FCP and 16 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 49 points and our bench scored 10 points. Their starters scored 66 points and their bench scored 13 points. Efficiency Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 13 of our 24 field goals = 54.2% They assisted 25 of their 30 field goals = 83.3% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 59 points in 69 possessions = 0.855 points/ possession They scored 79 points in 68 possessions = 1.162 points/possession It was a 137-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 59 points in 74 possessions = 0.797 points/ possession They scored 79 points in 66 possessions = 1.197 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 59 points, missed 39 field goals and missed 6 free throws = net +14 They scored 79 points, missed 26 field goals and missed 2 free throws = net +51 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 59 on 39 two-point attempts, 29 three-point attempts and 12 free throw attempts = 59 of a possible 177 points = 33.3% of possible points scored. They scored 79 on 26 two-point attempts, 37 three-point attempts and 7 free throw attempts = 79 of a possible 170 points = 46.5% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 39 two-point shots and were fouled 12 times = 3.25 They attempted 26 two-point shots and were fouled 6 times = 4.33 Comments: - Last I kept track of “combined percentages”: adding the two point, three point and free throw percentages, (I drop the decimals). Here are those stats for this game: Syracuse 487 + 172 + 500 = 1,159. Duke 615 + 378 + 714 = 1,707. We lost because we couldn’t throw it in the ocean and they could throw it in a wet sponge. - Teams normally score a point per possession and thus per offensive rebound and takeaway. When they score significantly more than that, the next thing to look at is fast break points. In the last three games Florida State, Clemson and Duke scored 59 points off of 32 SU turnovers. We scored 34 off of 34 takeovers. FSU and Clemson had 38 fast break points to our 25, so that’s part of it but not all of it. We just didn’t respond well to our own turnovers, even in the half-court defense. - Any time our starters get out-scored, we are likely to lose. When they get out-scored 49-66, forget it. - Much was made in the chat room about the fact that Duke was getting a lot more assists than we were. Of course the shooter has to assist the passer in getting assists by making the shot. But we also seem to give up on the passing game sooner and more often than the other teams in favor of drives the basket, which take the assist ‘off’ because the shooter dribbles the ball before shooting.
