Frank Howard was out for a full minute and is stuck at 39.) Team Stats: (I’ve decided to put the team that won the stat in bold and ties in italics.) POSSESSION Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 11 of our 32 misses = 34.4% They rebounded 9 of their 36 misses = 25.0% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 10 points on 11 O-Rebs = 0.909 points/O-reb They got 12 points on 9 O-Rebs = 1.333 points/ O-reb Unforced Turnovers (Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers) We had 11 turnovers – 7 steals = 4 unforced They had 14 turnovers – 9 steals = 5 unforced Points per Takeaway (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 16 points from 14 takeaways = 1.143 points/takeaway They had 13 points from 11 takeaways = 1.182 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 26 points in 25 unsettled situations = 1.040 points They had 25 points in 20 unsettled situations = 1.250 points Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 38 + 14 = 52 They had 30 + 11= 41 Scoring Shooting (shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 12 for 26 on twos, (46.2%), 6 for 20 on threes (30.0%) and 20 for 26 on frees (76.9%) They were 17 for 39 on twos, (43.6%), 3 for 15 on threes (20.0%) and 4 for 6 on frees (66.7%) Points (PIP= points in the paint, POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP –free throws made, TREY: points from three point shots, TZ= Twilight Zone, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers) We had 20 PIP, 22 POP, 18 TREY, 4 TZ, 13 POTO, 8 FBP They had 28 PIP, 15 POP, 9 TREY, 6 TZ, 16 POTO, 8 FBP Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 8 FBP in 44 opportunities (18.2%) They scored 8 FBP in 31 opportunities (25.8%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. We attempted 26 two point shots, scored 20 points in the paint, attempted 26 free throws and were fouled 19 times = 1.37; 1.05; 1.37 They attempted 39 two point shots, scored 28 points in the paint, attempted 6 free throws and were fouled 7 times = 5.57; 4.00; 0.86 Our numbers were in the normal range but Eastern Michigan’s were way out of whack: they couldn’t get a call and when they did they didn’t go to the line as much. Comments: - Tyus Battle came back from a -6NP game with a 21NP’er. - We out-rebounded 12 of our 13 pre-conference opponents. It will be interesting to see how well that holds up in the ACC. - In the first half we were 3 for 9 on two point shots, (and 2 for 12 on threes). They were 9 for 18 and 2 for 9. The taller team was shooting more form outside and scoring less inside. In the second half we turned it around: 9 for 17 and 4 for 8 while EMU was 8 for 21 and 1 for 6. - We finally got a fast break going late in the game and wound up with 8FBP, the most since the Maryland game. But EMU had as many in fewer opportunities. On the season we have bene out-scored on the break, 72-88, despite having more opportunities, 554-422. And this is the weaker part of the schedule, the teams that we should be able to run on the most. - We never fell significantly behind so we never used the press, which has been an effective weapon for us.
