I’ve added so many things to my post-game “Net Points” posts over the years that it’s become a very long post to read and a longer one to do. I’ve decided to have separate posts for the numbers for a particular game and for the cumulative season totals. It’s the later that takes most of the time and lengthens the post so much. There was too much verbiage and too many numbers. I’m still going to figure the season totals but I’ll post them at three different stages of the season: after the pre-conference schedule, after the conference schedule and after the post season. In the meantime, I’ll go with this stream-lined version of “Net Points, etc.” after each game, with numbers and commentary only for that game. That should make it both quicker to do and more digestible. Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) John Gillon 31 in 28 minutes Taurean Thompson 26 in 19 minutes Andrew White 17 in 31 minutes Tyler Lydon 13 in 26 minutes Franklin Howard 11 in 26 minutes Paschal Chukwu 5 in 10 minutes Tyler Roberson 5 in 18 minutes Tyus Battle 5 in 28 minutes DaJuan Coleman 0 in 9 minutes Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) John Gillon 27 Individual Offensive Efficiency (Points minus field goal and free throw attempts) John Gillon 20 Sat Us Down (Who scored the first SU basket of each half) 1st Half- Andrew White with a trey at 19:23 2nd Half- Tyus Battle with a trey at 19:46 TACO Bell MVP (Who scored the point that got us to 70, which gets you free tacos with your ticket stub) Andrew White with a trey with 12:10 left (Adrian Autry Jr and Ky Feldmen both missed threes in the final seconds that would have gotten us to fries. SCP is second chance points.) We had 66 FCP and 12 SCP They had 43 FCP and 18 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 44 points and our bench scored 55 points Their starters scored 59 points and their bench scored 18 points Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 20 of our 25 field goals, 80.0% They assisted 24 of their 33 field goals 72.7% Team Offensive Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 99 points in 77 possessions = 1.286 points/possession They scored 77 points in 76 possessions = 1.013 points/ possession It was a 153 possession game Breakdown by Quarters (Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one) 21-23, 24-16, 33-12, 21-26 FOULS (Two point shots, points in paint and free throws attempted per times fouled.) We attempted 32 two point shots, scored 24 points in the paint, attempted 28 free throws and were fouled 21 times = 1.52, 1.14, 1.33 They attempted 28 two point shots, scored 16 points in the paint, attempted 16 free throws and were fouled 10 times = 2.80, 1.60, 1.60 Comments: - John Gillon’s 31 net points are the most of the season so far and Taurean Thompson’s 26 are the second most. - It was the 5th straight game we’ve lost the rebound battle. In those games we’ve rebounded 25%, 21%, 27%, 29% and 26% of our misses. We rebounded 44% in the first four games. - We were 19 for 32 inside the arc, (58.4%), our first time over 50% since those first four games. It’s the sign of a strong team, which is what we thought we had at that time – and could be again. - It’s astonishing that we scored 99 points and only two of them were fast break points. - BU hit 16 trey but we hit 14 and a higher percentage. We had more “POP” because we out-scored them 14-2 in the Twilight Zone, mostly because of Taurean Thompson. - We had 55 points from our bench, 20 more than in our previous 4 games combined. - We have 125 assists in the 6 games at the carrier Dome and 27 in the three games away from it. - - The 153 possessions made this the fastest paced game of the year. - Our third quarter, 33-12, was out best of the season, easily.
