I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.) Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Joe Girard +17NP in 39 minutes = +142NP in 340 minutes = +16.7NP/40 for season Jesse Edwards +14NP in 30 minutes = +147NP in 276 minutes = +21.3NP/40 for season Cole Swider +14NP in 36 minutes = +114NP in 338 minutes = +13.5NP/40 for season Buddy Boeheim +12NP in 37 minutes = +129NP in 382 minutes = +13.5NP/40 for season Symir Torrence +5NP in 5 minutes = +26NP in 111 minutes = +9.4NP/40 for season Frank Anselem +4NP in 10 minutes = +28NP in 109 minutes = +9.5NP/40 for season Jimmy Boeheim +3NP in 39 minutes = +117NP in 349 minutes = +13.4NP/40 for season Benny Williams 0NP in 4 minutes = +3NP in 131 minutes = +0.9NP/40 for season DNP coach’s decision John Bol Ajak 0NP in 0 minutes = +5NP in 10 minutes = +20.0NP/40 for season Chaz Owens 0NP in 0 minutes = +1NP in 2 minutes = +20.0NP/40 for season Injured and couldn’t play Bourama Sidibie 0NP in 0 minutes = 0NP in 0 minutes = 0.0NP/40 for season Suspended Redshirting None (that we know of) Out for the year None Left Team None Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Joe Girard 17 points and 7 assists = 24 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts) Jesse Edwards 14 points – 1mfg – 0mft = +13 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Jesse Edwards 12 points of 14 = 85.7% My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Joe Girard and Jimmy Boeheim 39 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 9 of our 39 misses = 23.1% They rebounded 8 of their 30 misses = 26.7% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 8 points on 9 O-Rebs = 0.889 points/O-Reb They got 5 points on 8 O-Rebs = 0.625 points/O-Reb Points per Takeover (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 10 points from 11 takeovers = 0.909 points/takeaway They had 5 points from 7 takeovers = 0.714 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 18 points in 20 unsettled situations = 0.900 points/situation They had 10 points in 15 unsettled situations = 0.667 points/situation Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 31 + 11 = 42 They had 38 + 7 = 45 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 22 for 42 on twos, (52.3%), 8 for 26 on threes (30.8%) and 7 for 11 on frees (63.6%) They were 14 for 29 on twos, (48.3%), 11 for 26 on threes (42.3%) and 18 for 21 on frees (85.7%) Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint) FT = Free Throws We had 42 PIP, 26 POP, 24 OL, 2 TZ, 11 FT They had 26 PIP, 35 POP, 33 OL, 2 TZ, 21 FT Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 13 FBP in 31 opportunities (41.9%) They scored 0 FBP in 37 opportunities (0.0%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 47 FCP and 8 SCP They had 63 FCP and 5 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 66 points and our bench scored 9 points. Their starters scored 65 points and their bench scored 14 points. Efficiency Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 20 of our 30 field goals = 66.7% They assisted 20 of their 25 field goals = 80.0% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 75 points in 71 possessions = 1.056 points/ possession They scored 79 points in 68 possessions = 1.162 points/possession It was a 139-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 75 points in 80 possessions = 0.938 points/ possession They scored 79 points in 76 possessions = 1.030 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 75 points, missed 38 field goals and missed 4 free throws = net +33 They scored 79 points, missed 30 field goals and missed 3 free throws = net +46 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 75 on 42 two-point attempts, 26 three-point attempts and 11 free throw attempts = 75 of a possible 173 points = 43.4% of possible points scored. They scored 79 on 29 two-point attempts, 26 three-point attempts and 21 free throw attempts = 79 of a possible 157 points = 50.3% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 42 two-point shots and were fouled 11 times = 3.82 They attempted 29 two-point shots and were fouled 15 times = 1.93 Comments: - Jesse Edwards went from attempting 15 fee throws, (the entire total for the team against Villanova) to attempting zero against Georgetown. Buddy Boeheim hasn’t attempted a free throw in the last 3 games. - Early on, it looked as if we were going to g et killed on the offensive boards as we did at Villanova but we actually won that stat, 9-8 and went from getting 21 fewer shots than ‘Nova to getting 13 more in this game. - We won “unsettled situations”, (second chance points and points off turnovers/offensive rebounds +opponent turnovers), for the first time since our win over Indiana. - We had 42 points in the paint, the most since Lafayette (44). - We had 13 fast break points after having just 5 in the previous 2 games. This was the second straight game our opponents never scored a fast break point, despite 60 defensive rebounds, 6 blocks and 0 steals. - We went from 3 assists for 20 baskets to 20 assists for 30 baskets. Unfortunately our opposition went from 15/25 to 20 for 25. - We were twice as likely to get called for a foul when launching a two point shot.
