I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.) Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Alan Griffin +22NP in 33 minutes = +319NP in 674 minutes = +18.9NP/40 for season Jesse Edwards +11NP in 23 minutes = +15NP in 71 minutes = +8.5NP/40 for season Robert Braswell +8NP in 11 minutes = +30NP in 142 minutes = +8.5NP/40 for season Quincy Guerrier +8NP in 29 minutes = +344NP in 701 minutes = +19.5NP/40 for season Buddy Boeheim +7NP in 33 minutes = +178NP in 642 minutes = +11.1NP/40 for season Joe Girard +6NP in 26 minutes = +169NP in 604 minutes = +11.2NP/40 for season Kadary Richmond +2NP in 26 minutes = +187NP in 460 minutes = +16.3NP/40 for season John Bol Ajak +1NP in 9 minutes = -1NP in 50 minutes = -0.8NP/40 for season Marek Dolezaj -4NP in 10 minutes = +271NP in 731 minutes = +14.8NP/40 for season DNP coach’s decision Frank Anselem 0NP in 0 minutes = +5NP in 26 minutes = +7.7NP/40 for season Woody Newton 0NP in 0 minutes = +31NP in 86 minutes = +14.4NP/40 for season Chaz Owens 0NP in 0 minute = 0NP in 1 minute = 0.0NP/40 for season Injured and couldn’t play Bourama Sidibie 0NP in 0 minutes = 0NP in 15 minutes = 0.0NP/40 for season Suspended Redshirting None (that we know of) Out for the year None Left Team None Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Allen Griffin 26 points and 1 assists = 27 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts) Alan Griffin 26 points – 6 mfg – 0 mft = +20 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Alan Griffin 26 points of 41 = 63.4% My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Buddy Boeheim and Alan Griffin 33 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 12 of our 37 misses = 32.4% They rebounded 16 of their 40 misses = 40.0% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 14 points on 12 O-Rebs = 1.167 points/O-Reb They got 11 points on 16 O-Rebs = 0.6875 points/O-Reb Unforced Turnovers (Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers) We had 14 turnovers – 9 steals = 5 unforced They had 13 turnovers – 6 steals = 7 unforced Points per Takeover (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 23 points from 13 takeovers = 1.769 points/takeaway They had 28 points from 14 takeovers = 2.000 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 37 points in 25 unsettled situations = 1.480 points They had 39 points in 30 unsettled situations = 1.300 points Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 36 + 13 = 49 They had 41 + 14 = 55 Hustle Stats One of the radio sponsors gives an award to the team that had the most “hustle stats”, which they define as rebounds + blocks + steals. I decided to keep track of that, too: We had 36 + 3 + 6 = 45 They had 41 + 2 + 9 = 52 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 21 for 41 on twos, (51.2%), 7 for 21 on threes (33.3%) and 14 for 19 on frees (73.7%) They were 28 for 47 on twos, (59.6%), 5 for 19 on threes (26.3%) and 13 for 21 on frees (61.9%) Combined percentages were: 512 + 333 + 737 = 1,582 vs. 596 + 263 + 619 = 1,478 = +104 Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint) FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers We had 24 PIP, 39 POP, 21 OL, 18 TZ, 23 POTO, 17 FBP They had 54 PIP, 17 POP, 15 OL, 2 TZ, 28 POTO, 19 FBP Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 17 FBP in 33 opportunities (51.5%) They scored 19 FBP in 36 opportunities (52.8%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 32 FCP and 14 SCP They had 41 FCP and 11 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 63 points and our bench scored 14 points. Their starters scored 81 points and their bench scored 3 points. Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 12 of our 28 field goals = 42.9% They assisted 26 of their 33 field goals = 78.8% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 77 points in 73 possessions = 1.054 points/ possession They scored 84 points in 73 possessions = 1.151 points/possession It was a 146-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 77 points in 71 possessions = 1.085 points/ possession They scored 84 points in 76 possessions = 1.105 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 77 points, missed 34 field goals and missed 5 free throws = net +38 They scored 84 points, missed 33 field goals and missed 8 free throws = net +43 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 77 on 41 two point attempts, 21 three point attempts and 19 free throw attempts = 77 of a possible 164 points = 47.0% of possible points scored. They scored 84 on 47 two point attempts, 19 three point attempts and 21 free throw attempts = 84 of a possible 172 points = 48.8% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 41 two point shots and were fouled 16 times = 2.56 They attempted 47 two point shots and were fouled 17 times = 2.76 At this rate, if we’d taken 47 two point shots, we’d have been fouled 18 times. Comments - Jesse Edwards had +4 net points on the season going into this game. He now has +15 and his per 40 minute average rose from 3.3 to 8.5. - There were a total of 51 points after turnovers in this game. I’m surprised that we had 23 of them. - Unlike Duke and Notre Dame, Tech didn’t beat us from the outside. But we gave up 54 points in the paint. You aren’t going to win with that. - What am I missing here? We scored 77 points, 24 in the paint, 14 from the foul line, and 21 from 7 three pointers. That means we scored 18 points in the ‘twilight zone’ between the pant and the arc. 9 baskets from there. Really? - They had 19 fast break points. That passes the eye test. But we had 17. Really? - The opposition in the last three games has scored 93 baskets and 75 were assisted, (80.6%). We have assisted on 34 of our 83 baskets. (41.0%).
