We attempted 46 two point shots, scored 26 points in the paint, attempted 16 free throws and were fouled 14 times = 3.29, 1.86, 1.14 They attempted 34 two point shots, scored 24 points in the paint, attempted 5 free throws and were fouled 12 times = 2.83, 2.00, 0.42 [I] Comments: [/I] - Gbinije, Cooney and Lydon made big plays at the end of the game but without Roberson’s aggressive rebounding and throwing his body around against Sabonis and Wiltjer inside, those plays don’t win the game. - Cooney leading in offensive efficiency is quite a switch, It’s only the second time all year he did that. Again, he’s more of a scorer than a shooter. He can hit threes but he can also drive and could hit pull-ups or pass off if he put his mind to it. His whole problem has been that he was typed as a three point gunner and he’s less than that and more than that at the same time. - “Manufactured possessions” is classic zone: lose the rebounding battle but make up for it by forcing turnovers. But we wouldn’t have won without some determined offensive rebounds down the stretch. That shows up in our “effective offensive rebounding. - We were the smaller team but had 12 more two point field goal attempts and 11 more free throw attempts. Our percentage on the two point attempts was low but we still got one more basket from there due to all the attempts and scored 10 more points from the foul line. It offset our being -9 in points form the arc. - We got killed on our initial sets, 27-46 but won anyway because we got to the line and we got those second chance points. - Assists again meant nothing. They had twice as many of them and almost twice the percentage because they shot more jumps shots than we did. But you rarely win on jump shots. - Both teams were aware of the “Twilight Zone”. They used the whole court, not just the paint and the arc. - I wish we could get off to better starts in these games. We’ve likely got nothing but #1 seeds ahead of us and we can’t afford to go down 10-21 to them. - It was the Sweet 16 and both teams rode their best guys: there were just 11 bench points in the game and we had 9 of them.
