If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 112 points in 89 possessions = 1.256 points/ possession They scored 110 points in 84 possessions = 1.310 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 112 points, missed 37 field goals and missed 7 free throws = net +68 They scored 110 points, missed 31 field goals and missed 8 free throws = net +71 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 112 on 39 two-point attempts, 34 three-point attempts and 34 free throw attempts = 112 of a possible 214 points = 52.3% of possible points scored. We attempted 39 two-point shots and were fouled 24 times = 1.625 They attempted 42 two-point shots and were fouled 24 times = 1.750 At this rate, if we’d attempted 42 two point shots, we would have drawn 26 fouls Comments: - Jesse Edwards has now led the team in NP for three games in a row and leads in NP per 40 on the season. Does that make him the best player on the team? Not necessarily. Being closer to the basket, bot vertically and horizontally, gives you an advantage in filling up the box score. Buddy Boeheim has to shoot from 10-30 feet with a guy assigned to be in his face and he’s farther from the rebounds. But if you ask the question this way it gets more interesting: who is having the biggest impact on these games? - Jesse was 10 for 10 on the night: 7 for 7 on field goals and 3 for 3 from the line. In those last three games, Jesse has scored 55 points while missing 8 shots: 3 field goals and 5 free throws. Buddy Boeheim has scored 67 points in those games but missed 35 shots. Jesse scored 55 of a possible 66 points, (if all his shots had fallen), in the three games, Buddy 67 of a possible 150. - Many things won this game but none moreso than getting 33 points off of turnovers, including 18 steals. But how often are we going to do that? - We hit a terrific 59% of our two point shots with 36 points in the paint, largely thanks to Jesse Edwards. But Indiana hit 64% with 48 PIP, thanks to Trayce Jackson-Davis after Auburn had hit 59.5% and 42 PIP, thanks to Jabari Smith. I hope we don’t see too many studs like that the rest of the year. - One of the things we used to counter that was to beat the other team down the court. We got a season-high 24 fast break points to 14. Push it! - Both team’s starting line-ups hit the century mark: 106-100 - The two teams combined to score 222 of 410 possible points, (if every shot had gone in). That’s 54%.
