I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of the non-conference season, the ACC season and the post season. Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Elijah Hughes 16NP in 37 minutes Oshae Brissett 13NP in 39 minutes Buddy Boeheim 11NP in 31 minutes Tyus Battle 11NP in 38 minutes Marek Dolezaj 8NP in 23 minutes Paschal Chukwu 5NP in 16 minutes Robert Braswell 2NP in 1 minutes Frank Howard -2NP in 11 minutes DNP coach’s decision Jalen Carey and Bourama Sidibe Injured None Out for the year Howard Washington Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Elijah Hughes 18 points + 1 assists = 19 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus field goal and free throw attempts) Elijah Hughes 18 points – 8 mfg – 1 mft = +9 and Buddy Boeheim 14 – 5 – 0 = +9 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Buddy Boeheim 14 of 29 possible points = 48.3% Sat Us Down (Who scored the first SU basket of each half?) 1st Half- Oshae Brissett trey 1:35 in 2nd Half- Oshae Brissett lay-up 2:32 in TACO Bell MVP (Who scored the point that got us to 70, which gets you free tacos with your ticket stub) No tacos for us! My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Oshae Brissett 39 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 9 of our 35 misses = 25.7% They rebounded 10 of their 40 misses = 25.0% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 12 points on 9 O-Rebs = 1.333 points/O-reb They got 10 points on 10 O-Rebs = 1.000 points/O-reb Unforced Turnovers (Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers) We had 12 turnovers – 7 steals = 5 unforced They had 13 turnovers – 5 steals = 8 unforced Points per Takeaway (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 16 points from 13 takeaways = 1.231 points/takeaway They had 5 points from 12 takeaways = 0.417 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 28 points in 22 unsettled situations = 1.273 points They had 15 points in 22 unsettled situations = 0.682 points Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 39 + 13 = 52 They had 36 + 12 = 48 Hustle Stats One of the radio sponsors gives an award to the team that had the most “hustle stats”, which they define as rebounds + steals + blocks. I decided to keep track of that, too: We had 39 + 5 + 5 = 49 They had 36 + 7 + 2 = 45 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 11 for 27 on twos, (40.7%), 11 for 30 on threes (36.7%) and 14 for 16 on frees (87.5%) They were 8 for 26 on twos, (30.8%), 6 for 28 on threes (21.4%) and 15 for 18 on frees (83.3%) Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers We had 18 PIP, 37 POP, 33 OL, 4 TZ, 16 POTO, 11 FBP They had 16 PIP, 18 POP, 18 OL, 0 TZ, 5 POTO, 7 FBP Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 11 FBP in 40 opportunities (27.5%) They scored 7 FBP in 35 opportunities (20.0%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 32 FCP and 12 SCP They had 17 FCP and 10 SCP Last Possessions (Points scored on the last full possession of a half, a game or an overtime period.) We scored 4 points They scored 5 points (Both teams scored in their last possession of each half.) Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 47 points and our bench scored 22 points Their starters scored 35 points and their bench scored 14 points Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 12 of our 22 field goals = 54.5% They assisted 9 of their 14 field goals = 64.3% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 69 points in 67 possessions = 1.030 points/ possession They scored 49 points in 66 possessions = 0.742 points/possession It was a 133 possession game. Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 69 points, missed 35 field goals and 2 missed free throws = net 32 They scored 49 points, missed 40 field goals and 3 missed free throws = net 6 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 69 on 27 two point attempts, 30 three point attempts and 16 free throw attempts = 69 of a possible 160 points = 43.1% of possible points scored. They scored 49 on 26 two point attempts, 28 three point attempts and 18 free throw attempts = 49 of a possible 154 points = 31.8% of possible points scored. Breakdown by Quarters (Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one) 11-10, 24-13, 15-10, 19-16 Fouls (Two point shots and free throws attempted per times fouled.) We attempted 27 two point shots, attempted 16 free throws and were fouled 16 times = 1.06; 1.00 They attempted 26 two point shots, attempted 18 free throws and were fouled 14 times = 1.86; 1.29 We were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots but they got more free throws per foul by a very small margin. Comments - We were +13 in unsettled situations and that was 2/3 of the difference in the game. - Two point shots should normally be made at something close to a 50% level. These two teams were 19 for 53 inside the arc: 35.58%. - We got 32 FCP to 17, so we were +15 in our opening sets and yet also led in second chance points, 12-10.
