If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 66 points in 69 possessions = 0.957 points/ possession They scored 90 points in 73 possessions = 1.154 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 66 points, missed 37 field goals and missed 5 free throws = net +24 They scored 90 points, missed 34 field goals and missed 9 free throws = net +47 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 66 on 34 two point attempts, 26 three point attempts and 18 free throw attempts = 66 of a possible 164 points = 40.2% of possible points scored. Comments - Any time reserves are leading your team in net points, you know you had a bad game. Our “Big Four” of Elijah, Marek, Buddy and Joe totaled +18 net points in 130 minutes. Quincy Guerrier had +19 in 32 minutes. - This was not the game to complain about JB playing his starters too many minutes. Hughes played 37 minutes and nobody else played more than 32. Still, our starters played virtually the same number of minutes as theirs, (141 vs. 142) and got out-scored 42-63. Our bench was only out-scored 24-27. - Buddy Boeheim got to the line 5 times vs. Duke. He’s attempted one free throw since. What happened to his driving to the basket game he appeared to be getting so good at? - Shooting is supposed to be a strength of this team but this was the 9th game in a row where the other team had more POP, (Points Outside the Paint: Total Points – Points in the Paint- Free Throws). The game before that, (Boston College), we were tied. The last game where we won the POP was the game at Virginia, 11 games ago. That was also the last game where we hit double figures in three pointers. Our opposition has done that 5 times since. Overall, in the last ten games we are 65/232 = 28.0%. Our opposition is 92/270 = 34.1%. - This was the first game this season in which we lost every quarter of the game. The third quarter of this game, (10-26) was our second worst quarter of the season, (the worst was the second quarter of the Oklahoma State game, 12-29). The fact that it was a third quarter against suggests that the problem may have been mental fatigue, rather than physical fatigue. - The game was fairly officiated, (34 two points shots/16 fouls vs. 40/19), but the fat that they got 29 free throws to our 18 indicates we were out of position too many times and committed weak fouls that didn’t prevent them from getting the shot off too many times.
