I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.) Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Average net points/40 by position, (based on averaging 20+ minutes per game), since the 1980-81 season: Centers 18.6; Power Forwards: 18.4; Small Forwards: 16.1, Shooting Guards: 13.3; Point Guards: 13.5 Jesse Edwards +30NP in 26 minutes = +357NP in 660 minutes = +21.6NP/40 for season Jimmy Boeheim +17NP in 28 minutes = +284NP in 793 minutes = +14.3NP/40 for season Joe Girard +15NP in 30 minutes = +277NP in 770 minutes = +14.4NP/40 for season Buddy Boeheim +14NP in 34 minutes = +331NP in 859 minutes = +15.4NP/40 for season Cole Swider +12NP in 31 minutes = +285NP in 782 minutes = +14.6NP/40 for season Frank Anselem +8NP in 13 minutes = +59NP in 220 minutes = +10.7NP/40 for season Symir Torrence +6NP in 9 minutes = +73NP in 263 minutes = +11.1NP/40 for season John Bol Ajak +4NP in 6 minutes = +8NP in 36 minutes = +8.9NP/40 for season Benny Williams -2NP in 13 minutes = +13NP in 254 minutes = +2.0NP/40 for season DNP coach’s decision Chaz Owens 0NP in 0 minutes = +3NP in 5 minutes = +24.0NP/40 for season Bourama Sidibie 0NP in 0 minutes = +1NP in 8 minutes = +5.0NP/40 for season Injured or ill and couldn’t play Suspended None Redshirting None (that we know of) Out for the year None Left Team None Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Buddy Boeheim 19 points and 5 assists = 24 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts) Jesse Edwards 19 points – 2mfg – 0mft = +17 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Jesse Edwards 19 points of 23 = 82.6% My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Buddy Boeheim 34 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 7 of our 28 misses = 25.0% They rebounded 12 of their 40 misses = 30.0% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 13 points on 7 O-Rebs = 1.857 points/O-Reb They got 14 points on 12 O-Rebs = 1.167 points/O-Reb Points per Takeover (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 16 points from 14 takeovers = 1.143 points/takeaway They had 10 points from 13 takeovers = 0.769 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 29 points in 21 unsettled situations = 1.381 points/situation They had 24 points in 25 unsettled situations = 1.167 points/situation Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 35 + 14 = 49 They had 33 + 13 = 46 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 20 for 35 on twos, (57.1%), 12 for 23 on threes (52.2%) and 16 for 19 on frees (84.2%) They were 17 for 32 on twos, (53.1%), 10 for 35 on threes (28.6%) and 5 for 6 on frees (83.3%) Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint) FT = Free Throws We had 36 PIP, 40 POP, 36 OL, 4 TZ, 16 FT They had 24 PIP, 40 POP, 30 OL, 10 TZ, 5 FT Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 2 FBP in 40 opportunities (5.0%) They scored 7 FBP in 31 opportunities (22.6%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 61 FCP and 13 SCP They had 43 FCP and 14 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 78 points and our bench scored 14 points. Their starters scored 33 points and their bench scored 36 points. Efficiency Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 21 of our 32 field goals = 65.6% They assisted 19 of their 27 field goals = 70.4% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 92 points in 73 possessions = 1.260 points/ possession They scored 69 points in 72 possessions = 0.958 points/possession It was a 145-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 92 points in 67 possessions = 1.373 points/ possession They scored 69 points in 70 possessions = 0.986 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 92 points, missed 26 field goals and missed 3 free throws = net +63 They scored 69 points, missed 40 field goals and missed 1 free throws = net +28 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 92 on 35 two-point attempts, 23 three-point attempts and 19 free throw attempts = 92 of a possible 158 points = 58.2% of possible points scored. They scored 69 on 32 two-point attempts, 35 three-point attempts and 6 free throw attempts = 69 of a possible 175 points = 39.4% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 35 two-point shots and were fouled 15 times = 2.33 They attempted 32 two-point shots and were fouled 7 times = 4.57 Comments: - You have to wonder if the minutes given to Benny Williams, (+13NO in 254 minutes) should got to John Bol Ajak (+8NP in 36 minutes). - We finally had a game where not only forced more turnovers, (14-13) than the other team but scored more points off them (16-10). - It’s hard to believe that with our offense functioning so efficiently we had only 2 fast break points. Yet we scored 92 points- 90 of it in our half court offense. - Louisville won the “bench points” stat, 36-14. Who cares? We won the “starter points” stat 78-33. - In the last three games we’ve missed 75 field goal attempts and our opposition has missed 107.
