TEAM STATS

Possession

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)
We rebounded 17 of our 44 misses = 38.6%
They rebounded 16 of their 40 misses = 40.0%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)
We got 15 points on 17 O-Rebs = 0.882 points/O-Reb
They got 13 points on 16 O-Rebs = 0.8125 points/O-Reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)
We had 9 turnovers – 6 steals = 3 unforced
They had 12 turnovers – 7 steals = 5 unforced

Points per Takeover
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 11 points from 12 takeovers = 0.917 points/takeaway
They had 9 points from 9 takeovers = 1.000 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Point s+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)
We had 26 points in 26 unsettled situations = 1.000 points
They had 22 points in 28 unsettled situations = 0.786 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
We had 41 + 12 = 53
They had 43 + 9 = 52

Hustle Stats
One of the radio sponsors gives an award to the team that had the most “hustle stats”, which they define as rebounds + steals + blocks. I decided to keep track of that, too:
We had 41 + 6 + 7 = 54
They had 43 + 7 + 6= 56

Scoring

Shooting
(Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)
We were 19 for 40 on twos, (47.5%), 5 for 25 on threes (20.0%) and 12 for 19 on frees (63.2%)
They were 13 for 32 on twos, (40.6%), 10 for 31 on threes (32.3%) and 13 for 15 on frees (86.7%)
Combined percentages were: 1307 (475 + 200 + 632) vs. 1596 (406 + 323 + 867) = -289

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum”
POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made
OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots)
TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint)
FBP = fast break points
POTO= points off turnovers

We had 32 PIP, 21 POP, 15 OL, 6 TZ, 11 POTO, 7 FBP
They had 20 PIP, 36 POP, 30 OL, 6 TZ, 9 POTO, 2 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)
We scored 7 FBP in 37 opportunities (18.9%)
They scored 2 FBP in 40 opportunities (5.0%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)
We had 31 FCP and 15 SCP
They had 41 FCP and 13 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)
Our starters scored 52 points and our bench scored 13 points
Their starters scored 56 points and their bench scored 13 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)
We assisted 10 of our 24 field goals = 41.7%
They assisted 18 of their 23 field goals = 78.3%

Team Offensive Possession Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)
We scored 65 points in 66 possessions = 0.985 points/ possession
They scored 69 points in 66 possessions = 1.045 points/possession
It was a 132 possession game.

If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession:
We scored 65 points in 74 possessions = 0.879 points/ possession
They scored 69 points in 70 possessions = 0.986 points/possession

Team Shooting Efficiency

(Points minus missed field goals and free throws)

We scored 65 points, missed 41 field goals and missed 7 free throws = net +17
They scored 69 points, missed 40 field goals and missed 2 free throws = net +27
(Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot)

We scored 65 on 40 two point attempts, 25 three point attempts and 19 free throw attempts = 65 of a possible 174 points = 37.4% of possible points scored.
They scored 69 on 32 two point attempts, 31 three point attempts and 15 free throw attempts = 69 of a possible 172 points = 40.1% of possible points scored.

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

13-13, 11-13, 13-7, 19-23 OT: 9-13

Fouls

(Two point shots and free throws attempted per times fouled.)
We attempted 40 two point shots, attempted 19 free throws and were fouled 15 times = 2.67; 1.27
They attempted 32 two point shots, attempted 15 free throws and were fouled 16 times = 2.00; 0.94
They were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots but we got more shots per foul.

Comments

- One guy with double figures in Net Points isn’t going to cut it.

- We scored 6 more two point baskets but had 5 fewer treys and one fewer free throw.

- We had a +12 edge in PIP (points in the paint) but were -15 in in POP (points outside the paint).

- We once again had a big deficit in assists, (10-18), since they go to jump shots, not drives to the basket.
