I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.) This is limited to recruited scholarship players only. Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Average net points/40 by position, (based on averaging 20+ minutes per game), since the 1980-81 season: Centers 18.6; Power Forwards: 18.4; Small Forwards: 16.1, Shooting Guards: 13.3; Point Guards: 13.5 Judah Mintz +26NP in 35 minutes = +124NP in 336 minutes = +14.8NP/40 for season Jesse Edwards +19NP in 39 minutes = +254NP in 341 minutes = +29.8NP/40 for season Joe Girard +16NP in 38 minutes = +101NP in 357 minutes = +11.3NP/40 for season Benny Williams +14NP in 25 minutes = +84NP in 305 minutes = +11.0NP/40 for season Maliq Brown +10NP in 24 minutes = +55NP in 90 minutes = +24.4NP/40 for season Chris Bell +6NP in 12 minutes = +28NP in 216 minutes = +5.2NP/40 for season Symir Torrence +2NP in 6 minutes = +57NP in 155 minutes = +14.7NP/40 for season John Bol Ajak +2NP in 15 minutes = +34NP in 101 minutes = +13.5NP/40 for season Justin Taylor +1NP in 2 minutes = +49NP in 174 minutes = +11.3NP/40 for season Quadir Copeland -1NP in 3 minutes = +2NP in 62 minutes = +1.3NP/40 for season DNP coach’s decision Peter Carey 0NP in 0 minutes = -2NP in 20 minutes = -4.0NP/40 for season Mounir Hima 0NP in 0 minutes = +40NP in 78 minutes = +20.5NP/40 for season Injured or ill and couldn’t play None Suspended None Redshirting None Out for the year None Left Team None Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Judah Mintz 24 points and 5 assists = 31 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts) Judah Mintz 24 points – 6mfg – 1mft = +17 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Judah Mintz 24 points of 38 = 63.3% My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Jesse Edwards 39 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 13 of our 30 misses = 43.3% They rebounded 11 of their 31 misses = 35.5% Unsettled Situations [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 34 points in 27 unsettled situations = 1.259 points/situation They had 15 points in 21 unsettled situations = 0.714 points/situation Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 33 + 14 = 47 They had 28 + 10 = 38 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 20 for 40 on twos, (50.0%), 8 for 15 on threes (53.3%) and 16 for 19 on frees (84.2%) They were 18 for 33 on twos, (54.5%), 9 for 23 on threes (39.1%) and 8 for 10 on frees (80.0%) Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint) FT = Free Throws We had 36 PIP, 28 POP, 24 OL, 4 TZ, 22FT They had 36 PIP, 27 POP, 27 OL, 0 TZ, 8 FT Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 12 FBP in 33 opportunities (36.4%) They scored 10 FBP in 27 opportunities (37.0%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 36 FCP and 16 SCP They had 45 FCP and 8 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 71 points and our bench scored 15 points. Their starters scored 61 points and their bench scored 10 points. Efficiency Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 14 of our 28 field goals = 50.0% They assisted 19 of their 27 field goals = 70.4% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 86 points in 65 possessions = 1.323 points/ possession They scored 71 points in 64 possessions = 1.109 points/possession It was a 129-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 86 points in 68 possessions = 1.265 points/ possession They scored 71 points in 61 possessions = 1.164 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 86 points, missed 27 field goals and missed 6 free throws = net +53 They scored 71 points, missed 29 field goals and missed 2 free throws = net +40 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 86 on 40 two-point attempts, 15 three-point attempts and 28 free throw attempts = 86 of a possible 153 points = 56.2% of possible points scored. They scored 71 on 33 two-point attempts, 23 three-point attempts and 10 free throw attempts = 71 of a possible 145 points = 49.0% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 40 two-point shots and were fouled 26 times = 1.54 They attempted 33 two-point shots and were fouled 6 times = 5.50 Comments: - How long can Maliq brown be kept out of the lineup, averaging 24.4NP/40 compared to a combined 24.5 for Williams and Ajak and 17.8 for Bell, Taylor and Copeland? - We out-scored them in unsettled situations 34-15 and won by 15. - Monmouth’s two point field goal percentage, 54.5% was the highest we’ve given up this season. That’s normally a stat that determines victory if there is a big gap, (we shot 50%). Points in the paint were equal, (36%-36%) against a shorter team. - Which, in turn, led us to be out-scored 36-45 in our initial sets, (first chance points). - If we could go 8 for 15 from three per game (or something similar) on a consistent basis, we will win a lot of games. - Our starters tied Monmouth, 71-71. We have a bench this year. - Our streak of the other team drawing fouls more readily than we do, (9 straight), ended with a thud as the visitors got whistled 26 times to our 6. You can imagine that King Rice must have been fuming – but maybe not as much as you’d think because fouling seemed to be their strategy.
