SCP is second chance points.) We had 66 FCP and 8 SCP They had 25 FCP and 14SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 72 points and our bench scored 17 points. Their starters scored 53 points and their bench scored 15 points. Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 19 of our 34 field goals = 55.9% They assisted 11 of their 21 field goals = 52.7% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 89 points in 63 possessions = 1.413 points/ possession They scored 68 points in 64 possessions = 1.0625 points/possession It was a 127-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 89 points in 63 possessions = 1.413 points/ possession They scored 68 points in 69 possessions = 0.986 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 89 points, missed 26 field goals and missed 2 free throws = net +61 They scored 68 points, missed 37 field goals and missed 4 free throws = net +27 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 89 on 31 two point attempts, 29 three point attempts and 9 free throw attempts = 89 of a possible 158 points = 56.3% of possible points scored. They scored 68 on 41 two point attempts, 17 three point attempts and 23 free throw attempts = 68 of a possible 156 points = 43.6% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 31 two point shots and were fouled 12 times = 2.58 They attempted 41 two point shots and were fouled 19 times = 2.16 At this rate, if we’d taken 30 two point shots, we’d have been fouled 16 times. Comments - I didn’t have the impression that Alan Griffin was having a big game but he did with +22NP. 12p 8r 5a 2b 1s. he and Quincy Guerrier continue to vie for the net points lead on the season. With Guerrier still slightly in the lead with 380 for 19.4 and Griffin’s 371 19.3. Marek is versatile and Buddy has become a scoring machine but the G Men are our biggest stat producers. - Buddy Boeheim was the O-Dog with 27 points and 5 assists = 32. That was the highest combined total for an SU game this year. Similarly, his shooting efficiency as measure by points scored minute missed field goals and free throws of +21 is tied for the best this season. Quincy Guerrier had the same number vs. Niagara. But that was against Niagara in on December 3rd and he was a lot closer to the basket. - But it was Robert Braswell who led in scoring efficiency, (the ratio of points actually scored vs. the number that he would have scored if he made every shot) with 11/14 = 78.6%. After a horrible start this year, Bobby’s got his NP/40 almost up to starter’s level at 9.7. When he gets there he’ll give us NINE players averaging 10+ NP/40. This team has a lot of answer as JB and we are discovering. - Despite the many put-backs NC State got early in the game, we wound up rebounding slightly more of our misses (11/26 = 42.3% vs. 16/38 = 42.1%). Neither actually converted those offensive rebounds very efficiently. They had 14 second chance points to our 8. They also got only 8 points off of 11 turnovers, (you normally average a point per turnover). We did get 14 points off of their 12 turnovers, even though they had more fast break points, (8-10). We had 22 points in 23 unsettled situation to their 22 in 30. That’s the product of keeping you defensive intensity and awareness even when you don’t get the ball. - Over the years, when I’ve compared winning percentages to rankings in other statistics, the stats that most resembled the winning percentage rankings were offensive and defensive two point field goal percentage. Rebounding was the only stat even close to them. In our three game winning streak, we are hitting 53.2% of our two point shots. Our opposition is hitting 38.7%. - We doubled them in POP: points outside the paint, hitting 14 treys and 4 two point jumpers from the “Twilight Zone” between the paint and the arc to their 7 treys and 2 TZs We also killed them in First Chance Points, (total points minus second chance points, fouls shot and fast break points, 66-25. That’s’ the score against a set defense, folks. Both numbers were easily the best of the season by us or by our opposition. - When our bench out-scores you, (17-15), you know we are going down because our starters will out-score you, (72-53). Buddy played 37 minutes but nobody else played more than 33 and eight guys played at least 10 minutes. - Our offensive output of 1.413 points per possession was the best we or our opposition have had in a game this year.
