[QUOTE="SWC75, post: 2910347, member: 289"] I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of the non-conference season, the ACC season and the post season. Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Marek Dolezaj 13NP in 31 minutes Frank Howard 9NP in 28 minutes Paschal Chukwu 5NP in 10 minutes Robert Braswell 2NP in 7 minutes Bourama Sidibe 2NP in 18 minutes Elijah Hughes 2NP in 23 minutes Jalen Carey -1NP in 9 minutes Buddy Boeheim -1NP in 15 minutes Oshae Brissett -3NP in 27 minutes Tyus Battle -3NP in 32 minutes DNP coach’s decision None Injured None Out for the year Howard Washington Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Frank Howard 21 points + 0 assists = 21 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus field goal and free throw attempts) Frank Howard 21 points – 8 mfg – 0 mft = +13 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Marek Dolezaj 10 of 14 possible points = 71.4% Sat Us Down (Who scored the first SU basket of each half?) 1st Half- Frank Howard trey 4:20 in 2nd Half- Bourama Sidibe dunk 34 seconds in TACO Bell MVP (Who scored the point that got us to 70, which gets you free tacos with your ticket stub) No tacos for us! My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Tyus Battle 32 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 11 of our 46 misses = 23.9% They rebounded 7 of their 27 misses = 25.9% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 7 points on 11 O-Rebs = 0.636 points/O-reb They got 10 points on 7 O-Rebs = 1.429 points/O-reb Unforced Turnovers (Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers) We had 12 turnovers – 10 steals = 2 unforced They had 20 turnovers – 10 steals = 10 unforced Points per Takeaway (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 24 points from 20 takeaways = 1.200 points/takeaway They had 11 points from 12 takeaways = 0.917 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 31 points in 31 unsettled situations = 1.000 points They had 21 points in 19 unsettled situations = 1.105 points Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 31 + 20 = 51 They had 42 + 12 = 54 Hustle Stats One of the radio sponsors gives an award to the team that had the most “hustle stats”, which they define as rebounds + steals + blocks. I decided to keep track of that, too: We had 31 + 10 + 3 = 44 They had 42 + 10 + 4 = 56 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 16 for 35 on twos, (45.7%), 5 for 25 on threes (20.0%) and 11 for 22 on frees (50.0%) They were 19 for 31 on twos, (61.3%), 5 for 18 on threes (27.8%) and 20 for 24 on frees (83.3%) Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers We had 16 PIP, 31 POP, 15 OL, 16 TZ, 24 POTO, 7 FBP They had 28 PIP, 25 POP, 15 OL, 10 TZ, 11 POTO, 15 FBP Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 7 FBP in 33 opportunities (21.2%) They scored 15 FBP in 49 opportunities (30.6%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 33 FCP and 7 SCP They had 28 FCP and 10 SCP Last Possessions (Points scored on the last full possession of a half, a game or an overtime period.) We scored 2 points They scored 0 points Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 38 points and our bench scored 20 points Their starters scored 52 points and their bench scored 21 points Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 8 of our 21 field goals = 38.1% They assisted 19 of their 24 field goals = 79.2% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 58 points in 72 possessions = 0.806 points/ possession They scored 73 points in 73 possessions = 1.000 points/possession It was a 145 possession game. Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 58 points, missed 39 field goals and 11 missed free throws = net 8 They scored 73 points, missed 29 field goals and 4 missed free throws = net 40 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 58 on 35 two point attempts, 25 three point attempts and 22 free throw attempts = 58 of a possible 167 points = 34.7% of possible points scored. They scored 73 on 31 two point attempts, 18 three point attempts and 24 free throw attempts = 73 of a possible 140 points = 52.1% of possible points scored. Breakdown by Quarters (Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one) 11-12, 16-18, 14-25, 17-18 Fouls (Two point shots and free throws attempted per times fouled.) We attempted 35 two point shots, attempted 22 free throws and were fouled 17 times = 2.06; 1.29 They attempted 31 two point shots, attempted 24 free throws and were fouled 19 times = 1.63; 1.26 They were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots but we got more free throws per foul by a very small margin. Comments - Our “Big three” of Battle, Brissett and Hughes had a combined -4NP. - We weren’t outshot from outside. Both teams hit 5 treys. NC State won it inside and at the line. They scored on 61% of their two point shots to 46% for us. They shot 83% from the line to 50%. We were out-scored by 6 points inside and 9 points at the line. When you play zone, you expect those areas to be advantages. State passed the ball very well and got excellent penetration. We did not. - Yes, sometimes the shots go in and sometimes they don’t. The just shots actually went in more for us: we had 31 POP, 16 from the TZ to 25 and 15 for them. It was the penetration of the defense, the fouls shooting and the rebounding that won the game for State. - We won first chance points 33-28, so our offense wasn’t as dysfunctional as it seemed. They were +3 in second chance points, +8 in fast break points and +9 in free throws. - On the other hand, we only scored 0.8 points per possession and the were 1.0 so I guess they were more efficient.
