Comments - Against Oakland, we ‘sat down’ at 16:28 of the first half and 16:27 of the second half. That scared me: if we took forever to get going against North Florida, the best three point shooting team in the country, we could find ourselves out of the game and never get back into it. But in this game we sat down 19:42 and 19:35 and were off and running. - I should have brought up this stat in my “Upside”: Marek, who came in 31 for 52 from the foul line was 7 for 7 in this game- and all of them just dropped in. None of them ‘took the tour’. - JB earlier this year: “We don’t’ have a ‘Big Three’ on this team.” Three guys played 40 minutes: Elijah Hughes, Buddy Boeheim and Joe Girard. Actually, he’s right. Marek would surely have played 40 if he hadn’t had foul trouble. I guess we have a “Big Four”. - This game was a classic example of JB’s formula for success in ‘possessions’: We were out-rebounded by 2 but had 8 fewer turnovers so we came out +6. - It’s a good thing we had only 4 turnovers because they scored 9 points off of them. If we’d had 12 turnovers, as they did, at that rate, the Ospreys would have had 27 points off turnovers. - Ironically, we won this game because we had more of an inside game than the opponent. We hit 7 fewer threes but 12 more two and 9 more free throws even though both teams were 75% from the line because we got to the line twice as often. - In a close game, we won every quarter. The other two games where we did that: Bucknell and Georgia Tech. - A gap of 1.65 to 0.60 in two point shots divided by fouls called is a big one (+1.05). By comparison, the Georgetown game where we were so mad about the officiating was 2.14-1.57 = +0.57. We had a big advantage vs. Seattle: 0.92-2.31 = -1.38. But the biggest difference was in the Virginia game: 3.71-2.00 = +1.71. (You want the lower number, meaning the refs were calling more fouls on your two pointers than on theirs). - Yup- if every shot for both teams went in the final score would have been 168-168.
