I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.) Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) (season totals double-checked from Cuse.com stats on 3/1) Quincy Guerrier +25NP in 39 minutes = +128NP in 194 minutes = +26.4NP/40 for season Joe Girard +18NP in 39 minutes = +59NP in 194 minutes = +12.2NP/40 for season Marek Dolezaj +9NP in 40 minutes = +86NP in 197 minutes = +17.5NP/40 for season Woody Newton +3NP in 7 minutes = +39NP in 67 minutes = +23.3NP/40 for season Kadary Richmond +2NP in 18 minutes = +75NP in 150 minutes = +20.0NP/40 for season Buddy Boeheim -9NP in 33 minutes = +22NP in 95 minutes = +9.3NP/40 for season Alan Griffin -2NP in 24 minutes = +82NP in 188 minutes = +17.4NP/40 for season DNP coach’s decision Chaz Owens Jesse Edwards 0NP in 0 minutes = +1NP in 12 minutes = +3.3NP/40 for season Frank Anselem 0NP in 0 minutes = +5NP in 26 minutes = +7.7NP/40 for season Robert Braswell 0NP in 0 minutes = -8NP in 41 minutes = -7.8NP/40 for season John Bol Ajak 0NP in 0 minutes = -1NP in 26 minutes = -1.5NP/40 for season Injured and couldn’t play Bourama Sidibie (+1NP in 4 minutes = +10.0NP/40 for season) Suspended Redshirting None (that we know of) Out for the year None Left Team None Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Joe Girard 21 points and 3 assists = 24 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts) Quincy Guerrier 18 points – 4mfg – 3mft = +11 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Quincy Guerrier 18 points of 29 = 62.1% My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Marek Dolezaj 40 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 13 of our 43 misses = 30.2% They rebounded 6 of their 30 misses = 20.0% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 5 points on 6 O-Rebs = 0.833 points/O-Reb They got 12 points on 13 O-Rebs = 0.923 points/O-Reb Unforced Turnovers (Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers) We had 10 turnovers – 7 steals = 3 unforced They had 21 turnovers – 10 steals = 11 unforced Points per Takeover (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 19 points from 21 takeovers = 0.905 points/takeaway They had 10 points from 10 takeovers = 1.000 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 31 points in 34 unsettled situations = 0.912 points They had 15 points in 16 unsettled situations = 0.9375 points Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 37 + 21 = 58 They had 36 + 10 = 46 Hustle Stats One of the radio sponsors gives an award to the team that had the most “hustle stats”, which they define as rebounds + steals + blocks. I decided to keep track of that, too: We had 37 + 2 + 10 = 49 They had 36 + 2 + 7 = 45 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 17 for 42 on twos, (40.4%), 2 for 18 on threes (11.1%) and 22 for 26 on frees (84.6%) They were 9 for 19 on twos, (47.4%), 9 for 28 on threes (32.1%) and 11 for 14 on frees (78.6%) Combined percentages were: 404 + 111 + 846 = 1,361 vs. 474 + 321 + 786 = 1,581 = -220 Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint) FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers We had 32 PIP, 8 POP, 6 OL, 2 TZ, 19 POTO, 26 FBP They had 16 PIP, 29 POP, 27 OL, 2 TZ, 10 POTO, 8 FBP Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 26 FBP in 36 opportunities (72.2%) They scored 8 FBP in 39 opportunities (20.5%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 2 FCP and 12 SCP They had 36 FCP and 5 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 55 points and our bench scored 7 points Their starters scored 33 points and their bench scored 23 points Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 8 of our 19 field goals = 42.1% They assisted 13 of their 18 field goals = 72.2% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 62 points in 69 possessions = 0.898 points/ possession They scored 56 points in 69 possessions = 0.812 points/possession It was a 138 possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 62 points in 72 possessions = 0.861 points/ possession They scored 56 points in 54 possessions = 1.037 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 62 points, missed 41 field goals and missed 4 free throws = net +17 They scored 56 points, missed 29 field goals and missed 3 free throws = net +24 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 62 on 42 two point attempts, 18 three point attempts and 26 free throw attempts = 62 of a possible 164 points = 37.8% of possible points scored. They scored 56 on 19 two point attempts, 28 three point attempts and 14 free throw attempts = 56 of a possible 136 points = 41.2% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 42 two point shots and were fouled 22 times = 1.91 They attempted 19 two point shots and were fouled 14 times = 1.36 Comments - This game was all about possession of the ball. We were +11 in turnover margin, got off 13 more shots and wound up with one more field goal even though we shot 32% to 38%. - Since we didn’t shoot from outside, we had to go back to our old driving game. And got to the line 26 times. We shot 85% and out-scored them there by 11 points, overcoming the fact that they got 7 more treys than we did. - Here’s an amazing stat and I’ll break it down. We scored 62 points, 12 after offensive rebounds, 26 off the fast break and 22 at the line. How many points did we score on our initial sets? Exactly 2. Against BC it was 60! - Scoring 26 of 62 points on fast breaks is another amazing stat. Normally if you run that much, you expect to score 80-90 points at least.
