We had 53 FCP and 4 SCP They had 38 FCP and 8 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 65 points and our bench scored 11 points. Their starters scored 20 points and their bench scored 28 points. Efficiency Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 14 of our 32 field goals = 43.8% They assisted 16 of their 19 field goals = 84.2% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 76 points in 69 possessions = 1.101 points/ possession They scored 48 points in 69 possessions = 0.696 points/possession It was a 138-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 76 points in 65 possessions = 1.169 points/ possession They scored 48 points in 65 possessions = 0.738 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 76 points, missed 28 field goals and missed 5 free throws = net +43 They scored 48 points, missed 40 field goals and missed 11 free throws = net -3 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 76 on 46 two-point attempts, 14 three-point attempts and 11 free throw attempts = 76 of a possible 145 points = 52.4% of possible points scored. They scored 48 on 27 two-point attempts, 32 three-point attempts and 13 free throw attempts = 48 of a possible 163 points = 29.4% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 46 two-point shots and were fouled 14 times = 3.29 They attempted 27 two-point shots and were fouled 13 times = 2.08 Comments: - I was amazed that we got only 4 ‘second chance points’ compared to 8 for the significantly shorter team. Of course we had fewer offensive rebounds: 9 to 14, which also seems strange. The key is that they missed more shots than we did, (32 to 24). - Getting out-scored by their bench 11-28 isn’t so bad when our starters out-scored theirs 65-20. - Northeastern had an amazing assist percentage, 84% to our paltry 44%. But that’s because most of their points came on jump shots for which the shooter didn’t happen to dribble. - The refs let ‘em play- that is, they let Northeastern play. The vast majority of fouls come on two point field goal attempts. We were fouled just 14 times and yet had 46 two point field goal attempts. They were fouled 13 times on just 27 shots inside the arc. At that rate, if they’d attempted 46 two pointers the refs would have whistled 22 fouls on us. [/QUOTE]
