Comments: - Bourama Sidibie got 27 of his 62NP for the season today. And Howard Washington got 9 of his 24NP. - Including the injured Matthew Moyer, 7 of our 8 available recruited players are averaging at least 11NP per 40 minutes. My normal rule of thumb is that if you are in double fingers you are good enough to be a starter, (which doesn’t mean you will if somebody else is better). That’s a strong percentage and a good number of useful players. And the one guy who missed, Howard Washington (8.6) is a useful reserve. He’s just not ready to start yet. - This was only the fifth game this year, (and 2nd in the last 17 games), in which no one played the entire 40 minutes. - The teams were horrible at taking advantage of offensive rebounds and turnovers. SU converted 23 unsettled situation into 16 points and Pittsburgh pathetically could produce only 10 points in 27 situations. Our performance was our second worst of the season to St. Bonaventure, ((20 in 32). Pitt’s was the worst of the season, breaking their own record from two games ago, 97 from 14). The toothless Panthers had 1 second chance point in that game and just 2 points from turnovers in this game. - We were 5 for 17, (29% after 69% in the last game), inside the arc in the first half, 11 for 22 in the second. That improvement won us the game. - 11 points outside the paint, (POP) was a season low and -20 compared to the opponent’s POP (31) tied for the worst deficit, (Maryland was 17-37). We won both games! - We lost First Chance Points for the first time since the Wake Forest game with our lowest output of the season: only 22 points on our initial sets. - We also lost “starter points” for the first time since the Wake Forest game, largely because Sidibie out-performed Chukwu. - It’s interesting that we had one of our highest percentage of assisted baskets, (14 of 19) in a game where our POP was the lowest of the year. Assists normally come from success jump shots because players rarely dribble after receiving the passes that lead to jump shots. We had a higher assit ratio only against Texas southern (80.8% vs. 73.7%)
