I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.)

It was a 143 possession game.

If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession:

Comments

- We have some very good players on this team. Seven are averaging 10+ NP/40 minutes, my somewhat arbitrary minimum for an adequate starter and five of them are 15+, including Quincy Guerrier who is performing at an All-American level at 23.9. But we have some basic weaknesses at center and point guard that hold us back. Also, when the effort lags as it did today, it doesn’t matter how good you are when you are playing well.

- We have out-rebounded every team we’ve beaten - and been out-rebounded by double figures by every team we’ve lost to.

- We out-shot them from two point range and at the line but we couldn’t out-shoot them from the arc, which was supposed to be an advantage for us.

- It isn’t often that our starters get out-scored but they did here, 74-89. We complain about JB not playing his bench but neither did Pitt in this game. The ‘benches’ (not that there is actually a bench) scored only 9 of the 172 points played in this game.
