I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.)

Net Points
(points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls)

Average net points/40 by position, (based on averaging 20+ minutes per game), since the 1980-81 season:
Centers 18.6; Power Forwards: 18.4; Small Forwards: 16.1, Shooting Guards: 13.3; Point Guards: 13.5

Jesse Edwards +12NP in 34 minutes = +293NP in 581 minutes = +20.2NP/40 for season
Buddy Boeheim +10NP in 40 minutes = +272NP in 755 minutes = +14.4NP/40 for season
Jimmy Boeheim +7NP in 36 minutes = +243NP in 690 minutes = +14.1NP/40 for season
Cole Swider +3NP in 35 minutes = +232NP in 679 minutes = +13.7NP/40 for season
Frank Anselem +1NP in 6 minutes = +45NP in 186 minutes = +9.7NP/40 for season
John Bol Ajak -1NP in 10 minutes = +4NP in 30 minutes = +5.3NP/40 for season
Benny Williams -1NP in 3 minutes = +13NP in 226 minutes = +2.3NP/40 for season
Joe Girard -5NP in 36 minutes = +228NP in 674 minutes = +13.5NP/40 for season

DNP coach’s decision
Chaz Owens 0NP in 0 minutes = +4NP in 4 minutes = +40.0NP/40 for season
Bourama Sidibie 0NP in 0 minutes = +1NP in 8 minutes = +5.0NP/40 for season

Injured or ill and couldn’t play
Symir Torrence 0NP in 0 minutes = +64NP in 237 minutes = +10.8NP/40 for season

Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog)
(Points plus assists)
Buddy Boeheim 25 points and 1 assist = 26

Shooting Efficiency
(Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts)
Buddy Boeheim 25 points – 14mfg – 1mft = +10

Scoring Efficiency
(Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points)
Jesse Edwards 8 points of 20 = 40.0%

My Man
(Who played the most minutes?)
Buddy Boeheim 40 minutes

TEAM STATS

Possession

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)
We rebounded 14 of our 46 misses = 30.4%
They rebounded 13 of their 38 misses = 34.2%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)
We got 15 points on 14 O-Rebs = 1.071 points/O-Reb
They got 13 points on 13 O-Rebs = 1.000 points/O-Reb

Points per Takeover
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 8 points from 13 takeovers = 0.615 points/takeaway
They had 15 points from 10 takeovers = 1.500 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)
We had 23 points in 24 unsettled situations = 0.958 points/situation
They had 28 points in 23 unsettled situations = 1.217 points/situation

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
We had 39 + 13 = 52
They had 45 + 10 = 55

Scoring

Shooting
(Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)
We were 13 for 32 on twos, (40.6%), 6 for 31 on threes (19.4%) and 9 for 16 on frees (56.3%)
They were 13 for 32 on twos, (40.6%), 7 for 26 on threes (26.9%) and 17 for 20 on frees (85.0%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum”
POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made
OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots)
TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint)
FT = Free Throws

We had 16 PIP, 28 POP, 18 OL, 10 TZ, 9 FT
They had 22 PIP, 25 POP, 21 OL, 4 TZ, 17 FT

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)
We scored 8 FBP in 32 opportunities (25.0%)
They scored 15 FBP in 44 opportunities (34.1%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)
We had 21 FCP and 8 SCP
They had 19 FCP and 15 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)
Our starters scored 53 points and our bench scored 0 points.
Their starters scored 64 points and their bench scored 0 points.

Efficiency

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)
We assisted 9 of our 19 field goals = 47.4%
They assisted 15 of their 20 field goals = 75.0%

Team Offensive Possession Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)
We scored 53 points in 67 possessions = 0.791 points/ possession
They scored 64 points in 68 possessions = 0.941 points/possession
It was a 135-possession game.

If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession:
We scored 53 points in 71 possessions = 0.746 points/ possession
They scored 64 points in 68 possessions = 0.941 points/possession

Team Shooting Efficiency

(Points minus missed field goals and free throws)

We scored 53 points, missed 44 field goals and missed 7 free throws = net +2
They scored 64 points, missed 38 field goals and missed 3 free throws = net +23

(Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot)

We scored 53 on 32 two-point attempts, 31 three-point attempts and 16 free throw attempts = 53 of a possible 173 points = 30.6% of possible points scored.
They scored 64 on 32 two-point attempts, 26 three-point attempts and 20 free throw attempts = 64 of a possible 162 points = 39.5% of possible points scored.

Fouls

(Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.)
We attempted 32 two-point shots and were fouled 12 times = 2.67
They attempted 32 two-point shots and were fouled 15 times = 2.13

Comments:

- If Buddy Boeheim had hit all of his shots, he’s have scored 65 points. Instead he got 25. That’s 38%

- A continuing trend: In the last four games we have 47 takeovers but only scored 42 points off of it. Our opposition has 42 takeovers but have scored 74 points off of them.

- Both teams were 13/32 inside the arc. They were 1/14 outside of it in the first half and we were 1/14 in the second half.

- Neither team’s bench scored a point. Jim Boeheim must have thought he was in heaven.
