I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.)

Net Points
(points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls)

Buddy Boeheim +24NP in 40 minutes = +229NP in 603 minutes = +15.2NP/40 for season
Jimmy Boeheim +21NP in 35 minutes = +210NP in 553 minutes = +15.2NP/40 for season
Jesse Edwards +11NP in 32 minutes = +225NP in 448 minutes = +20.1NP/40 for season
Cole Swider +7NP in 38 minutes = +197NP in 546 minutes = +14.4NP/40 for season
Joe Girard +2NP in 28 minutes = +196NP in 537 minutes = +14.6NP/40 for season
Frank Anselem +2NP in 7 minutes = +40NP in 157 minutes = +10.2NP/40 for season
Symir Torrence +2NP in 12 minutes = +43NP in 183 minutes = +9.4NP/40 for season
John Bol Ajak 0NP in 4 minutes = +5NP in 17 minutes = +11.8NP/40 for season
Benny Williams 0NP in 4 minutes = +14NP in 211 minutes = +2.7NP/40 for season

Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog)
(Points plus assists)
Buddy Boeheim 24 points and 3 assists = 27

Shooting Efficiency
(Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts)
Buddy Boeheim 24 points – 6mfg – 1mft = +17

Scoring Efficiency
(Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points)
Jimmy Boeheim 18 points of 26 = 69.2%

My Man
(Who played the most minutes?)
Buddy Boeheim 40 minutes

TEAM STATS

Possession

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)
We rebounded 12 of our 29 misses = 41.4%
They rebounded 12 of their 30 misses = 40.0%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)
We got 14 points on 12 O-Rebs = 1.167 points/O-Reb
They got 12 points on 12 O-Rebs = 1.000 points/O-Reb

Points per Takeover
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 13 points from 9 takeovers = 1.444 points/takeaway
They had 13 points from 13 takeovers = 1.000 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)
We had 25 points in 21 unsettled situations = 1.190 points/situation
They had 27 points in 25 unsettled situations = 1.080 points/situation

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
We had 30 + 13 = 43
They had 29 + 9 = 38

Scoring

Shooting
(Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)
We were 19 for 32 on twos, (59.4%), 6 for 17 on threes (35.3%) and 21 for 31 on frees (67.7%)
They were 11 for 25 on twos, (44.0%), 7 for 22 on threes (31.8%) and 18 for 26 on frees (69.2%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum”
POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made
OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots)
TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint)
FT = Free Throws

We had 32 PIP, 27 POP, 18 OL, 6 TZ, 21 FT
They had 16 PIP, 24 POP, 21 OL, 6 TZ, 18 FT

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)
We scored 7 FBP in 34 opportunities (20.6%)
They scored 9 FBP in 22 opportunities (40.9%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)
We had 35 FCP and 14 SCP
They had 22 FCP and 12 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)
Our starters scored 72 points and our bench scored 5 points.
Their starters scored 53 points and their bench scored 8 points.

Efficiency

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)
We assisted 10 of our 18 field goals = 53.6%
They assisted 13 of their 25 field goals = 52.0%

Team Offensive Possession Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)
We scored 77 points in 61 possessions = 1.262 points/ possession
They scored 61 points in 60 possessions = 1.017 points/possession
It was a 121-possession game.

If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession:
We scored 77 points in 64 possessions = 1.203 points/ possession
They scored 61 points in 59 possessions = 1.034 points/possession

Team Shooting Efficiency

(Points minus missed field goals and free throws)

We scored 77 points, missed 24 field goals and missed 10 free throws = net +43
They scored 61 points, missed 29 field goals and missed 8 free throws = net +24

(Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot)

We scored 77 on 32 two-point attempts, 17 three-point attempts and 31 free throw attempts = 77 of a possible 146 points = 52.7% of possible points scored.
They scored 61 on 25 two-point attempts, 22 three-point attempts and 26 free throw attempts = 61 of a possible 142 points = 43.0% of possible points scored.

Fouls

(Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.)
We attempted 32 two-point shots and were fouled 19 times = 1.684
They attempted 25 two-point shots and were fouled 20 times = 1.125
If they’d attempted 32 two-point field goals at that rate, they’d have been fouled 26 times.

Comments:

- Buddy Boeheim was 5 for 8 from three but his teammates were only 1 for 9. As a team we were 1 for 7 in the second half – and yet we won that half 42-27.

- We shot 59.4% on two pointers and out-scored Pitt in the Paint 32-16. In the three straight losses we were 40.0%, 44.4% and 41.3% from two and were out-scored in the paint 70-93.

- In this game, we were fouled 19 times on 32 two point shots. Against Wake Forest we were fouled 11 times on 46 two point shots.
