I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.) This is limited to recruited scholarship players only. Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Average net points/40 by position, (based on averaging 20+ minutes per game), since the 1980-81 season: Centers 18.6; Power Forwards: 18.4; Small Forwards: 16.1, Shooting Guards: 13.3; Point Guards: 13.5 Joe Girard +20NP in 42 minutes = +52NP in 127 minutes = +16.4NP/40 for season Jesse Edwards +19NP in 31 minutes = +83NP in 117 minutes = +28.4NP/40 for season Judah Mintz +15NP in 37 minutes = +62NP in 127 minutes = +19.5NP/40 for season Chris Bell +7NP in 34 minutes = +12NP in 70 minutes = +6.9NP/40 for season Maliq Brown +3NP in 5 minutes = +20NP in 42 minutes = +19.0NP/40 for season Justin Taylor +1NP in 12 minutes = +10NP in 52 minutes = +7.7NP/40 for season Symir Torrence +1NP in 12 minutes = +22NP in 77 minutes = +11.4NP/40 for season Mounir Hima +1NP in 14 minutes = +12NP in 38 minutes = +12.6NP/40 for season Benny Williams -1NP in 40 minutes = +19NP in 126 minutes = +6.0NP/40 for season DNP coach’s decision John Bol Ajak 0NP in 0 minutes = +2NP in 4 minutes = +20.0NP/40 for season Peter Carey 0NP in 0 minutes = -1NP in 11 minutes = -3.6NP/40 for season Quadir Copeland 0NP in 0 minutes = +7NP in 36 minutes = +7.8NP/40 for season Injured or ill and couldn’t play None Suspended None Redshirting None Out for the year None Left Team None Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Joe Girard 31 points and 2 assists = 33 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts) Joe Girard 31 points – 12mfg – 2mft = +17 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Jesse Edwards 10 points of 16= 62.5% My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Joe Girard 42 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 9 of our 33 misses = 27.3% They rebounded 20 of their 39 misses = 51.3% Unsettled Situations [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 40 points in 27 unsettled situations = 1.481 points/situation They had 17 points in 26 unsettled situations = 0.654 points/situation Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 27 + 18 = 45 They had 44 + 6 = 50 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 23 for 45 on twos, (51.1%), 7 for 18 on threes (38.9%) and 7 for 11 on frees (63.6%) They were 14 for 35 on twos, (40.0%), 13 for 31 on threes (41.9%) and 4 for 9 on frees (44.4%) Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint) FT = Free Throws We had 40 PIP, 27 POP, 21 OL, 6 TZ, 7 FT They had 26 PIP, 41 POP, 39 OL, 2 TZ, 4 FT Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 13 FBP in 37 opportunities (35.1%) They scored 10 FBP in 29 opportunities (34.5%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 41 FCP and 13 SCP They had 48 FCP and 9 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 72 points and our bench scored 2 points. Their starters scored 54 points and their bench scored 17 points. Efficiency Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 11 of our 30 field goals = 36.7% They assisted 16 of their 27 field goals = 59.3% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 74 points in 65 possessions = 1.138 points/ possession They scored 71 points in 68 possessions = 1.044 points/possession It was a 133-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 74 points in 68 possessions = 1.136 points/ possession They scored 71 points in 70 possessions = 1.014 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 74 points, missed 33 field goals and missed 4 free throws = net +37 They scored 71 points, missed 39 field goals and missed 5 free throws = net +27 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 74 on 45 two-point attempts, 18 three-point attempts and 11 free throw attempts = 74 of a possible 155 points = 47.7% of possible points scored. They scored 71 on 35 two-point attempts, 31 three-point attempts and 9 free throw attempts = 71 of a possible 172 points = 41.3% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 45 two-point shots and were fouled 12 times = 3.75 They attempted 35 two-point shots and were fouled 12 times = 2.92 Comments: - Why does Benny Williams, (6.0NP/40) get 40 minutes and Maliq Brown (19.0) gets 5? - Amazingly, Richmond got 20 offensive rebounds to our 9 but we had more second chance points, 13-9. - Our free throw defense is excellent. Our last two opponents are 6 for 22 from the line, (27.3%)
