I’ve added so many things to my post-game “Net Points” posts over the years that it’s become a very long post to read and a longer one to do. I’ve decided to have separate posts for the numbers for a particular game and for the cumulative season totals. It’s the later that takes most of the time and lengthens the post so much. There was too much verbiage and too many numbers.
I’m still going to figure the season totals but I’ll post them at three different stages of the season: after the pre-conference schedule, after the conference schedule and after the post season. In the meantime, I’ll go with this stream-lined version of “Net Points, etc.” after each game, with numbers and commentary only for that game. That should make it both quicker to do and more digestible.
Net Points

We attempted 29 two point shots, scored 8 points in the paint, attempted 26 free throws and were fouled 21 times = 1.38, 0.38, 1.24
They attempted 38 two point shots, scored 30 points in the paint, attempted 19 free throws and were fouled 19 times = 2.00, 1.58, 1.00
Comments:
- We’d scored a basket in the first minute of each half in every game this year. In this game it took 2 minutes and 49 seconds in the first half and two seconds longer than that in the second half.
- It was not a game for offensive rebounding. We got only 25% of ours and SC got only 32% of theirs. We’d been averaging 44% going into the game and even our much shorter opponents had been averaging 33%.
- We are usually good at swiping the ball but The Game cocks pecked us for 12 steals or our 6.
- We had 10 second chance points off 9 offensive rebounds and 11 points from 15 turnovers. They had 9/10 and 11/17 so we had a combined 21 points in 24 unsettled situations. They had 20 points in 27. So we recovered a little better and were a little more opportunistic.
- We’d been averaging 41 POP per game but got only 26 here. It’s still more than SC got, (20). Both teams had 8 points from the TZ. We lost it in the paint, 8-30.
- South Carolina State scored .0787 points per possession in their game against us. We scored .0781 today vs. South Carolina.
- The foul stats were strongly in our favor: we were much more likely to be the beneficiary of a foul call when taking a two point shot or scoring in the paint and we got more free throws out of the fouls that were called. That’s doesn’t eman the refs were biased in our favor: ti means that there was no bias against us reflected in the numbers. We can’t blame the refs for this one.
- This was a wire-to-wire job. SC hit two treys, the first 25 seconds in, and we never caught up.
