Team Stats:
(I’ve decided to put the team that won the stat in bold and ties in italics.)

POSSESSION

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)

We rebounded 16 of our 47 misses = 34.0%
They rebounded 8 of their 41 misses = 19.5%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)

We got 11 points on 16 O-Rebs = 0.6875 points/O-reb
They got 2 points on 8 O-Rebs = 0.250 points/ O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)

We had 16 turnovers – 4 steals = 12 unforced
They had 16 turnovers – 8 steals = 8 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)

We had 9 points from 16 takeaways = 0.5625 points/takeaway
They had 17 points from 16 takeaways = 1.0625 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)

We had 20 points in 32 unsettled situations = 0.625 points
They had 19 points in 24 unsettled situations = 0.792 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)

We had 49 + 16 = 65
They had 39 + 16= 55

Scoring

Shooting
(shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)

We were 15 for 41 on twos, (36.6%), 3 for 19 on threes (15.8%) and 18 for 28 on frees (64.3%)
They were 11 for 37 on twos, (29.7%), 7 for 18 on threes (29.4%) and 17 for 23 on frees (73.9%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP –free throws made, TREY: points from three point shots, TZ= Twilight Zone, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers)

We had 28 PIP, 11 POP, 9 TREY, 2 TZ, 9 POTO, 2 FBP
They had 18 PIP, 25 POP, 21 TREY, 4 TZ, 17 POTO, 4 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)

We scored 2 FBP in 50 opportunities (4.0%)
They scored 4 FBP in 38 opportunities (10.5%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)

We had 26 FCP and 11 SCP
They had 37 FCP and 2 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)

Our starters scored 48 points and our bench scored 9 points
Their starters scored 48 points and their bench scored 12 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)

We assisted 9 of our 18 field goals = 50.0%
They assisted 13 of their 18 field goals = 72.2%

Team Offensive Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)

We scored 57 points in 73 possessions = 0.781 points/ possession
They scored 60 points in 74 possessions = 0.811 points/possession
It was a 147 possession game, 134 of them in regulation.

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

15-18, 18-22, 7-11, 13-2 OT: 4-7

Fouls
(Two point shots, points in paint and free throws attempted per times fouled.)

We attempted 41 two point shots, scored 28 points in the paint, attempted 28 free throws and were fouled 22 times = 1.78; 1.22; 1.22
They attempted 37 two point shots, scored 18 points in the paint, attempted 23 free throws and were fouled 23 times = 1.68; 0.82; 1.05

The game was over-officiated in the first half and under-officiated in the second but the calls were not biased.

Comments:

- The net statistical contribution to this game of Paschal Chukwu, Matthew Moyer, Howard Washington, Bourama Sidibe and Tyus Battle was -4NP.

- Both teams did a horrible job of taking advantage of offensive rebounds, totaling 13 second chance points on 24 o-rebs.

- It was the same story taking advantage of turnovers: 26 points off turnovers for 32 turnovers.

- We had 12 unforced turnovers in this game. The Bonnies had only 4. On the season we have 80 to 61 for the opposition and have lost this stat 11 times in 12 games.

- Combined we had 20 points in unsettled situation to 19 but there were 56 unsettled situaitons (offensive rebounds plus turnovers). The problem is, both teams were so sloppy, and shot so poorly, they couldn’t take advantage of the other’s mistakes. The whole game was an “unsettled situation”.

- St Bonaventure scored 2 points in the last quarter of regulation and still won!
