Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 69 points in 77 possessions = 0.896 points/ possession They scored 76 points in 76 possessions = 1.000 points/possession It was a 153-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 69 points in 76 possessions = 0.908 points/ possession They scored 76 points in 77 possessions = 0.987 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 69 points, missed 41 field goals and missed 4 free throws = net +24 They scored 76 points, missed 40 field goals and missed 6 free throws = net +30 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 69 on 51 two-point attempts, 16 three-point attempts and 18 free throw attempts = 69 of a possible 168 points = 41.1% of possible points scored. They scored 76 on 44 two-point attempts, 23 three-point attempts and 21 free throw attempts = 76 of a possible 178 points = 42.7% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 51 two-point shots and were fouled 16 times = 3.19 They attempted 44 two-point shots and were fouled 15 times = 2.93 Comments: - Did Judah Mintz really have a great game – or even a good one? He scored 20 points, many of them on spectacular first-half shots. But he had just 2 assists and 6 turnovers and missed 10 field goals and 3 free throws. The net result was 6NP. - 1st half rebounds and turnovers: 23-22 and 3-9. Second half & OT: 15-25 and 11-7. Scoring went from 35-29 to 34-47. - This was the first game in which our starters got outscored, (65-72). We don’t win those games. - That was the best defensive game of the year for both teams. It was our worst game in terms of efficiency (.896/.908) and our second-best defensive performance (1.000/.987) after Northeastern, a team nowhere near as good as St. John’s. Same with shooting efficiency, (+24/+30). It was our lowest percentage of possible points (41.1%) and third lowest on defense, (42.&%), just behind Richmond and behind Northeastern. 74-71 and 69-76 are not typical overtime game scores.
