Team Stats:
(I’ve decided to put the team that won the stat in bold and ties in italics.)

POSSESSION

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)

We rebounded 6 of our 35 misses = 17.1%
They rebounded 6 of their 26 misses = 23.1%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)

We got 3 points on 6 O-Rebs = 0.500 points/O-reb
They got 5 points on 6 O-Rebs = 0.833 points/ O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)

We had 7 turnovers – 4 steals = 3 unforced
They had 11 turnovers – 3 steals = 8 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)

We had 14 points from 11 takeaways = 1.273 points/takeaway
They had 2 points from 7 takeaways = 0.286 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)

We had 17 points in 17 unsettled situations = 1.000 points
They had 7 points in 13 unsettled situations = 0.538 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)

We had 26 + 11 = 37
They had 35 + 7= 42

Scoring

Shooting
(shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)

We were 13 for 30 on twos, (43.3%), 4 for 21 on threes (19.0%) and 6 for 9 on frees (66.7%)
They were 16 for 24 on twos, (66.7%), 7 for 23 on threes (30.4%) and 6 for 8 on frees (75.0%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP –free throws made, TREY: points from three point shots, TZ= Twilight Zone, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers)

We had 22 PIP, 16 POP, 12 TREY, 4 TZ, 14 POTO, 4 FBP
They had 22 PIP, 31 POP, 21 TREY, 10 TZ, 2 POTO, 2 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)

We scored 4 FBP in 27 opportunities (14.8%)
They scored 2 FBP in 37 opportunities (5.4%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)

We had 31 FCP and 3 SCP
They had 46 FCP and 5 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)

Our starters scored 44 points and our bench scored 0 points
Their starters scored 32 points and their bench scored 27 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)

We assisted 6 of our 17 field goals = 35.3%
They assisted 19 of their 23 field goals = 82.6%

Team Offensive Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)

We scored 44 points in 56 possessions = 0.786 points/ possession
They scored 59 points in 56 possessions = 1.054 points/possession
It was a 112 possession game. (We are averaging 132 a game in regulation.)

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

13-13, 8-18, 6-15, 17-13

Fouls
(Two point shots, points in paint and free throws attempted per times fouled.)

We attempted 30 two point shots, scored 22 points in the paint, attempted 9 free throws and were fouled 12 times = 2.50; 1.83; 0.75
They attempted 24 two point shots, scored 22 points in the paint, attempted 8 free throws and were fouled 11 times = 2.18; 2.00; 0.73

They were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots but we were more likely to be fouled scoring in the paint and we got more free throws out of it when fouled. The diffferences were minimal.

Comments:

- Frank Howard's NP in his last three games: -1, -4 and -3. He’s scored 28 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, dished out 8 assists, made 3 steals and blocked 1 shot in in 116 minutes. He’s shot 7 for 22 on two pointers, 3 for 22 on three pointers, committed 10 turnovers and 10 fouls.

- Say what you want about the press but we got 14 points off turnovers to 2. It was the only stat that hugely favored us.

- Neither team did much on the offensive boards with a total of 12 offensive rebounds. They did even less with it when they got one, scoring a total of only 8 second chance points.

- We usually lose the assist battle but 6 to 19 is pretty extreme.

- We scored 0.785 points per possession vs. Georgia Tech and 0.786 vs. Virginia.

- We’ve held our last three opponents to less than 60 points and lost two of those games.
