Comments
- We had 27 points in 20 unsettled situations to their 20/25. The difference is passing.
- We had 8 blocks and 7 steals to their 0 and 2. That’s domination.
- So is this: we were 24/42 (57.1%) inside the arc. They were just 12/32 (375.%)
- We shot poorly from outside and they were hot early. But we actually wound up with a higher percent age from three: 30.8% to 27.6%. This was by far our finest defensive game of the season.
- We almost doubled them in points in the paint, 46-24. Some of this was actually on jump shots as we found a sweet spot out toward the foul line. Griffin and Boeheim are particularly good at turn-around jumpers from there.
- They had exactly 1 fast break point.
- Once again the relationship of assists as a statistic to winning has to be questions: we assisted on 39.3% baskets, (even though we passed the ball well). They assisted on 80% of theirs – and lost by 18. When you drive to the basket to score you don’t get the assists. Scoring 28 times vs. scoring 20 times is the big stat here.
- We missed 27 field goals. They missed 41. If both teams had made all their shots, we’d have lost by 23.
