I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.) Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Alan Griffin +27NP in 37 minutes = +206NP in 414 minutes = +19.9NP/40 for season Quincy Guerrier +19NP in 34 minutes = +262NP in 440 minutes = +23.8NP/40 for season Marek Dolezaj +17NP in 40 minutes = +181NP in 460 minutes = +15.7NP/40 for season Joe Girard +12NP in 33 minutes = +119NP in 410 minutes = +11.6NP/40 for season Kadary Richmond +10NP in 15 minutes = +127NP in 276 minutes = +18.4NP/40 for season Buddy Boeheim +3NP in 39 minutes = +101NP in 358 minutes = +11.3NP/40 for season Jesse Edwards -1NP in 2 minutes = +3NP in 45 minutes = +2.7NP/40 for season DNP coach’s decision Frank Anselem 0NP in 0 minutes = +5NP in 26 minutes = +7.7NP/40 for season John Bol Ajak 0NP in 0 minutes = -1NP in 29 minutes = -1.4NP/40 for season Robert Braswell 0NP in 0 minute = +11NP in 96 minutes = +4.6NP/40 for season Woody Newton 0NP in 0 minutes = +38NP in 78 minutes = +19.5NP/40 for season Chaz Owens 0NP in 0 minute = 0NP in 1 minute = 0.0NP/40 for season Injured and couldn’t play Bourama Sidibie 0NP in 0 minutes = +1NP in 4 minutes = +10.0NP/40 for season Suspended Redshirting None (that we know of) Out for the year None Left Team None Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Quincy Guerrier 20 points and 1 assists = 21 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts) Marek Dolezaj 18 points – 4 mfg – 0 mft = +14 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Kadary Richmond 13 points of 15 = 86.7% My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Marek Dolezaj 40 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 10 of our 30 misses = 33.3% They rebounded 15 of their 42 misses = 35.7% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 16 points on 10 O-Rebs = 1.600 points/O-Reb They got 13 points on 15 O-Rebs = 0.867 points/O-Reb Unforced Turnovers (Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers) We had 8 turnovers – 2 steals = 6 unforced They had 10 turnovers – 7 steals = 3 unforced Points per Takeover (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 11 points from 10 takeovers = 1.100 points/takeaway They had 7 points from 8 takeovers = 0.800 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 27 points in 20 unsettled situations = 1.350 points They had 20 points in 23 unsettled situations = 0.800 points Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 37 + 10 = 47 They had 35 + 8 = 43 Hustle Stats One of the radio sponsors gives an award to the team that had the most “hustle stats”, which they define as rebounds + blocks + steals. I decided to keep track of that, too: We had 37 + 8 + 7= 52 They had 35 + 0 + 2 = 37 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 24 for 42 on twos, (57.1%), 4 for 13 on threes (30.8%) and 18 for 22 on frees (81.8%) They were 12 for 32 on twos, (37.5%), 8 for 29 on threes (27.6%) and 12 for 17 on frees (70.6%) Combined percentages were: 571 + 308 + 818 = 1,697 vs. 375 + 276 + 706 = 1,357 = +340 Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint) FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers We had 46 PIP, 14 POP, 12 OL, 2 TZ, 11 POTO, 11 FBP They had 24 PIP, 24 POP, 24 OL, 0 TZ, 7 POTO, 1 FBP Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 11 FBP in 42 opportunities (26.2%) They scored 1 FBP in 22 opportunities (4.5%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 33 FCP and 16 SCP They had 34 FCP and 13 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 65 points and our bench scored 13 points. Their starters scored 41 points and their bench scored 19points. Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 11 of our 28 field goals = 39.3% They assisted 16 of their 20 field goals = 80.0% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 78 points in 63 possessions = 1.238 points/ possession They scored 60 points in 64 possessions = 0.9375 points/possession It was a 127-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 78 points in 65 possessions = 1.200 points/ possession They scored 60 points in 69 possessions = 0.870 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 78 points, missed 27 field goals and missed 4 free throws = net +47 They scored 60 points, missed 41 field goals and missed 5 free throws = net +14 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 78 on 42 two point attempts, 13 three point attempts and 22 free throw attempts = 78 of a possible 145 points = 53.8% of possible points scored. They scored 60 on 32 two point attempts, 29 three point attempts and 17 free throw attempts = 60 of a possible 168 points = 35.7% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 36 two point shots and were fouled 12 times = 3.00 They attempted 31 two point shots and were fouled 12 times = 2.58 At this rate, if they’d taken 36 two point shots, they’d have been fouled 14 times. Comments - We had 27 points in 20 unsettled situations to their 20/25. The difference is passing. - We had 8 blocks and 7 steals to their 0 and 2. That’s domination. - So is this: we were 24/42 (57.1%) inside the arc. They were just 12/32 (375.%) - We shot poorly from outside and they were hot early. But we actually wound up with a higher percent age from three: 30.8% to 27.6%. This was by far our finest defensive game of the season. - We almost doubled them in points in the paint, 46-24. Some of this was actually on jump shots as we found a sweet spot out toward the foul line. Griffin and Boeheim are particularly good at turn-around jumpers from there. - They had exactly 1 fast break point. - Once again the relationship of assists as a statistic to winning has to be questions: we assisted on 39.3% baskets, (even though we passed the ball well). They assisted on 80% of theirs – and lost by 18. When you drive to the basket to score you don’t get the assists. Scoring 28 times vs. scoring 20 times is the big stat here. - We missed 27 field goals. They missed 41. If both teams had made all their shots, we’d have lost by 23.
