There haven’t been a lot of rebounds to get in these last two games but we’ve gotten only 10 offensive rebounds on 46 misses (21.7%). We’ve been outrebounded by this measure in 8 of 11 conference games, averaging getting only 30% of our misses compared to 37% for our opponents. - We’ve led in points from takeaways and points per takeaway for four games in a row – and won four games in a row. We’ve had 74 points on 54 takeaways and our opponents have had 53 points on 51 takeaways. That’s +21 points and we’ve eon those games by 26 points, one in over time. - We were an astonishing 16 for 24 (67%) from two point range against one of the best defenses in the country. We were 10 of 13 in the second half: 77%! - Fast break points in the first half: Syracuse 2 Virginia 3. Fast break points in the second half: Syracuse 9 Virginia 0. (And we win by 4). - We are 9-1-1 in conference games from the Twilight Zone, (between the paint and the arc). BC tied us in the second game and Wake beat us 12-6. But overall, we are ahead 114-68 in conference games. That’s +46 points. - In three of the four wins of this streak, we’ve lost Pat’s “First Chance Points” stat, (total points minus second chance points, fast break points and made free throws). This is a measure of how well we are doing in our initial sets of each possession on both ends. In this game it was 35-51. Against Wake Forest it was 28-34 and against Florida State it was 29-37. Our fast break points in these games were 38-14. Our made free throws were 58-36. We won these games by beating the other team down court and by getting to the line. - Our starters have scored 162 of our 166 points in the last two games. That’s 97.6%. Virginia’s bench outscored their starters 33-29. - We had every reason to be depressed at half time: we’d let a competitive game turn into a 22-34 deficit by allowing Virginia to score the last eight points and in conference play we’ve lost the third quarter of games 7 times in 10 games, including the least four. In those last four 3rd quarters, we’d been out-scored 62-102. Any kind of reasonably good start by the Cavaliers would have put this game away. Instead we blitzed them with an 11 point run on the way to a 21-5 third quarter edge, which gave us a lead we never surrendered. - Despite some bad first half calls, the foul statistics totally favored Syracuse. We were more likely to draw a foul on a two point shot or when scoring in the paint and got more free throws from the fouls that were called and it wasn’t even close. [/QUOTE]
