Tyus Battle and Frank Howard 39 minutes

Team Stats:
(I’ve decided to put the team that won the stat in bold and ties in italics.)

POSSESSION

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)

We rebounded 17 of our 39 misses = 43.6%
They rebounded 11 of their 26 misses = 42.3%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)

We got 17 points on 19 O-Rebs = 0.895 points/O-reb
They got 16 points on 13 O-Rebs = 1.231 points/ O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)

We had 11 turnovers – 7 steals = 4 unforced
They had 7 turnovers – 6 steals = 1 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)

We had 13 points from 7 takeaways = 1.857 points/takeaway
They had 15 points from 11 takeaways = 1.364 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)

We had 30 points in 26 unsettled situations = 1.154 points
They had 31 points in 24 unsettled situations = 1.292 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)

We had 41 + 7 = 48
They had 31 + 11= 42

Scoring

Shooting
(shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)

We were 17 for 39 on twos, (43.6%), 6 for 21 on threes (28.6%) and 9 for 11 on frees (81.8%)
They were 11 for 26 on twos, (42.3%), 9 for 27 on threes (33.3%) and 19 for 22 on frees (86.4%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP –free throws made, TREY: points from three point shots, TZ= Twilight Zone, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers)

We had 24 PIP, 28 POP, 18 TREY, 10 TZ, 13 POTO, 4 FBP
They had 20 PIP, 29 POP, 27 TREY, 2 TZ, 15 POTO, 6 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)

We scored 4 FBP in 33 opportunities (12.1%)
They scored 6 FBP in 30 opportunities (20.0%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)

We had 31 FCP and 17 SCP
They had 27 FCP and 16 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)

Our starters scored 61 points and our bench scored 0 points
Their starters scored 50 points and their bench scored 18 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)

We assisted 3 of our 23 field goals = 13.0%
They assisted 15 of their 20 field goals = 75.0%

Team Offensive Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)

We scored 61 points in 57 possessions = 1.070 points/ possession
They scored 68 points in 57 possessions = 1.193 points/possession
It was a 114 possession game (We are averaging 131 a game)

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

12-9, 14-20, 14-18, 21-21

Fouls
(Two point shots, points in paint and free throws attempted per times fouled.)

We attempted 39 two point shots, scored 24 points in the paint, attempted 11 free throws and were fouled 13 times = 3.00; 1.85; 0.85
They attempted 26 two point shots, scored 20 points in the paint, attempted 22 free throws and were fouled 17 times = 1.53; 1.18; 1.29

Theye were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots or scoring in the paint and got more free throws out of it when fouled.

Comments:

- Our starting backcourt had a combined 3NP.

- Paschal Chukwu was out most efficient scorer tonight. That tells you all you need to know.

- We had more first chance points, 31-27 and more second chance points 17-16. So how did we lose? We were outscored at the foul line 9-19, (and 4-6 on fast breaks).

- It was the second time in three games our bench was shut out.

- We had at least 9 assists in every game this season until tonight, when we had 3. Our assist to turnover ratio was 3-11. Our point guard’s was 1-7.

Our offensive efficiency was actually quite good tonight, as your calculations show (Of course that was totally based on getting 19 offensive rebounds, and not our shooting)

Virginia's defensive efficiency on KP before the game was 84.4/100 for the year... after tonight it was 85.7/100.

We still had more first chance points, 31-27. We lost because they got to the line more than we did.
