I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.) Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Marek Dolezaj +15NP in 40 minutes = +196NP in 500 minutes = +15.7NP/40 for season Alan Griffin +14NP in 36 minutes = +220NP in 450 minutes = +19.6NP/40 for season Quincy Guerrier +13NP in 37 minutes = +275NP in 477 minutes = +23.1NP/40 for season Joe Girard +5NP in 26 minutes = +124NP in 436 minutes = +11.4NP/40 for season Robert Braswell 0NP in 7 minutes = +11NP in 103 minutes = +4.3NP/40 for season Kadary Richmond -1NP in 20 minutes = +126NP in 296 minutes = +17.0NP/40 for season Buddy Boeheim -1NP in 34 minutes = +100NP in 392 minutes = +10.2NP/40 for season DNP coach’s decision Frank Anselem 0NP in 0 minutes = +5NP in 26 minutes = +7.7NP/40 for season John Bol Ajak 0NP in 0 minutes = -1NP in 29 minutes = -1.4NP/40 for season Jesse Edwards 0NP in 0 minutes = +3NP in 45 minutes = +2.7NP/40 for season Woody Newton 0NP in 0 minutes = +38NP in 78 minutes = +19.5NP/40 for season Chaz Owens 0NP in 0 minute = 0NP in 1 minute = 0.0NP/40 for season Injured and couldn’t play Bourama Sidibie 0NP in 0 minutes = +1NP in 4 minutes = +10.0NP/40 for season Suspended Redshirting None (that we know of) Out for the year None Left Team None Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Quincy Guerrier 15 points and 0 assists = 15 and Alan Griffin 13 points and 2 assists = 15 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts) Marek Dolezaj 8 – 3 – 0 = +5, Quincy Guerrier 15 – 10 – 0 =+5 and Alan Griffin 13 – 7 – 1 = +5 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Marek Dolezaj 8 points of 14 = 57.1% My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Marek Dolezaj 40 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 4 of our 38 misses = 10.5% They rebounded 7 of their 31 misses = 22.6% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 5 points on 4 O-Rebs = 0.882 points/O-Reb They got 7 points on 7 O-Rebs = 1.000 points/O-Reb Unforced Turnovers (Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers) We had 12 turnovers – 7 steals = 5 unforced They had 13 turnovers – 9 steals = 4 unforced Points per Takeover (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 10 points from 13 takeovers = 0.769 points/takeaway They had 17 points from 12 takeovers = 1.417 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 15 points in 17 unsettled situations = 0.882 points They had 24 points in 19 unsettled situations = 1.263 points Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 28 + 13 = 41 They had 41 + 12 = 53 Hustle Stats One of the radio sponsors gives an award to the team that had the most “hustle stats”, which they define as rebounds + blocks + steals. I decided to keep track of that, too: We had 28 + 2 + 9= 39 They had 41 + 5 + 7 = 46 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 19 for 35 on twos, (54.3%), 5 for 24 on threes (20.8%) and 9 for 10 on frees (90.0%) They were 15 for 28 on twos, (53.5%), 14 for 31 on threes (45.2%) and 9 for 11 on frees (81.8%) Combined percentages were: 543 + 208 + 900 = 1651 vs. 535 + 452 + 818 = 1,805 = -154 Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint) FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers We had 22 PIP, 27 POP, 15 OL, 12 TZ, 10 POTO, 6 FBP They had 26 PIP, 46 POP, 42 OL, 4 TZ, 17 POTO, 9 FBP Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 6 FBP in 35 opportunities (17.1%) They scored 9 FBP in 46 opportunities (19.6%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 38 FCP and 5 SCP They had 56 FCP and 7 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 53 points and our bench scored 5 points. Their starters scored 72 points and their bench scored 9 points. Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 10 of our 22 field goals = 45.4% They assisted 23 of their 29 field goals = 79.3% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 58 points in 71 possessions = 0.817 points/ possession They scored 81 points in 70 possessions = 1.157 points/possession It was a 141-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 58 points in 64 possessions = 0.906 points/ possession They scored 81 points in 64 possessions = 1.265 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 58 points, missed 37 field goals and missed 1 free throws = net +20 They scored 81 points, missed 30 field goals and missed 2 free throws = net +49 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 58 on 35 two point attempts, 24 three point attempts and 10 free throw attempts = 58 of a possible 152 points = 38.2% of possible points scored. They scored 81 on 28 two point attempts, 31 three point attempts and 11 free throw attempts = 81 of a possible 160 points = 50.6% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 35 two point shots and were fouled 8 times = 4.375 They attempted 28 two point shots and were fouled 10 times = 2.800 At this rate, if they’d taken 35 two point shots, they’d have been fouled 12.5 times. Comments - We rebounded 4 of our 38 misses, (10.5%)easily our worst offensive rebounding performance of the years. (Ironically, the next worse was against Rider: 5 for 26, 19.5.) And this against a team that doesn’t fast break so we didn’t need to worry about beating them down court. - Surprisingly, we were only -4 in points in the paint, 22-26. We were +8 in points form the ‘Twilight Zone’ between the paint and the arc, (12-4) and broke even from the line, (9-9). We lost it from the arc, (15-42). - We are now hitting and amazing 79.3% of our free throws! But that’s only good for 11th in the country in this season of no fans to wave anything in the background. - We were out-scored in our initial sets 38-56 and any time our starters get out-scored 53-72, we are toast. - Our ratio of two point shots to times fouled, (35/8= 4.375) was easily the highest for any game this season, either for us or an opponent. They just weren’t calling anything.
