We attempted 31 two-point shots and were fouled 17 times = 1.82 They attempted 28 two-point shots and were fouled 16 times = 1.75 Comments: - Someone was trying to float the notion that the problem in this game was that Jim Boeheim finally acceded to the demands of some of us that Malik Brown should replace Benny Williams in the starting line up and this disaster resulted from it. Statistically, Malik was our best player, (16NP to 14 for Judah while Benny was -2). And it worked in its intended impact: the game was 10-10 after 5 minutes and 17-21 after 10. We didn’t lose because of a bad start because there was none. The problems came after that and had little to do with Malik, who played well and was a key part of our press. - Our press is designed to create unsettled situations to give us an alternative to getting bogged down in an unsuccessful half-court offense – and it did. The problem is, the Hokies scored far more points in those situations, (17-33), than we did. - In the end, they didn’t out-shoot us from outside by a tremendous amount: 40.6% from three to our 38.9%. It’s what the 11 threes they made in the first half did to our internal defense: they shot 67.9%, (19 of 28) inside the arc. - And, by out-rebounding us by 9, (26-37) while breaking even in turnovers, (15), even though we pressed for half the game and they didn’t, they got to take 11 more shots than we did (49-60), and the 11 more shots tended to be threes, (18-32).
