I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.) Net Points (points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls) Average net points/40 by position, (based on averaging 20+ minutes per game), since the 1980-81 season: Centers 18.6; Power Forwards: 18.4; Small Forwards: 16.1, Shooting Guards: 13.3; Point Guards: 13.5 Buddy Boeheim +34NP in 37 minutes = +306NP in 792 minutes = +15.5NP/40 for season Cole Swider +20NP in 33 minutes = +252NP in 712 minutes = +14.2NP/40 for season Joe Girard +12NP in 35 minutes = +240NP in 709 minutes = +13.5NP/40 for season Jesse Edwards +10NP in 22 minutes = +303NP in 603 minutes = +20.1NP/40 for season Frank Anselem +8NP in 17 minutes = +53NP in 203 minutes = +10.3NP/40 for season Jimmy Boeheim +7NP in 35 minutes = +250NP in 725 minutes = +13.8NP/40 for season Symir Torrence +4NP in 6 minutes = +68NP in 243 minutes = +11.2NP/40 for season Chaz Owens -1NP in 1 minutes = +3NP in 5 minutes = +24.0NP/40 for season Benny Williams +2NP in 10 minutes = +15NP in 236 minutes = +2.5NP/40 for season DNP coach’s decision Bourama Sidibie 0NP in 0 minutes = +1NP in 8 minutes = +5.0NP/40 for season Injured or ill and couldn’t play John Bol Ajak 0NP in 0 minutes = +4NP in 30 minutes = +5.3NP/40 for season Suspended None Redshirting None (that we know of) Out for the year None Left Team None Awards Offensive Dude of the Game, (O-Dog) (Points plus assists) Buddy Boeheim 30 points and 7 assists = 37 Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts) Buddy Boeheim 30 points – 9mfg – 0mft = +21 Scoring Efficiency (Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points) Cole Swider 18 points of 24 = 75.0% My Man (Who played the most minutes?) Jimmy Boeheim 35 minutes TEAM STATS Possession Rebounding (Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that) We rebounded 11 of our 30 misses = 36.7% They rebounded 12 of their 31 misses = 38.7% Effective Offensive Rebounding (Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds) We got 14 points on 11 O-Rebs = 1.272 points/O-Reb They got 14 points on 12 O-Rebs = 1.167 points/O-Reb Points per Takeover (Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had) We had 19 points from 17 takeovers = 1.118 points/takeaway They had 9 points from 5 takeovers = 1.600 points/takeaway Unsettled Situations (Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers) We had 33 points in 28 unsettled situations = 1.179 points/situation They had 22 points in 17 unsettled situations = 1.294 points/situation Manufactured Possessions (One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers) We had 30 + 17 = 47 They had 31 + 5 = 36 Scoring Shooting (Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws) We were 26 for 44 on twos, (59.1%), 10 for 19 on threes (52.6%) and 12 for 17 on frees (70.6%) They were 16 for 29 on twos, (55.2%), 11 for 27 on threes (40.7%) and 7 for 10 on frees (70.0%) Points (PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum” POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots) TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint) FT = Free Throws We had 42 PIP, 40 POP, 30 OL, 10 TZ, 12 FT They had 32 PIP, 33 POP, 33 OL, 0 TZ, 7 FT Fast Break Percentage (FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals) We scored 9 FBP in 30 opportunities (30.0%) They scored 9 FBP in 25 opportunities (36.0%) First Chance/Second Chance (FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.) We had 59 FCP and 14 SCP They had 42 FCP and 14 SCP Starters/Bench (Total points – bench points = starters points) Our starters scored 79 points and our bench scored 15 points. Their starters scored 54 points and their bench scored 18 points. Efficiency Assists (The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted) We assisted 18 of our 36 field goals = 50.0% They assisted 16 of their 27 field goals = 59.3% Team Offensive Possession Efficiency (Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions) We scored 94 points in 65 possessions = 1.446 points/ possession They scored 72 points in 66 possessions = 1.091 points/possession It was a 131-possession game. If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession: We scored 94 points in 71 possessions = 1.324 points/ possession They scored 72 points in 61 possessions = 1.180 points/possession Team Shooting Efficiency (Points minus missed field goals and free throws) We scored 94 points, missed 27 field goals and missed 5 free throws = net +62 They scored 72 points, missed 29 field goals and missed 3 free throws = net +40 (Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot) We scored 94 on 44 two-point attempts, 19 three-point attempts and 17 free throw attempts = 94 of a possible 162 points = 58.0% of possible points scored. They scored 72 on 29 two-point attempts, 27 three-point attempts and 10 free throw attempts = 72 of a possible 149points = 48.3% of possible points scored. Fouls (Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.) We attempted 44 two-point shots and were fouled 17 times = 2.59 They attempted 29 two-point shots and were fouled 15 times = 1.93 Comments: - Buddy Boeheim’s 34 net points are tried with Joe Girard’s game in the loss against Colgate for the highest statistical output of the season for a Syracuse player. His NP/40 went for 14.4 to 15.5. - A strange trend continued. We got more points from takeovers than Wake Forest, (19-9), but that was because we got more takeovers (17-5). The ratio still favored the opposition. In the last 5 games we’ve scored 61 points off of 64 takeovers while they’ve scored 88 points off of 47 takeovers. - We had 11 more possessions, (rebounds + takeovers) than Wake Forest, just as we did in the first game. - Our 15 bench points was our most since we scored 16 on Lafayette. Alas, our bench hasn’t outscored any team’s bench all year, not even in this game. We did tie Pittsburgh as neither tam’s bench scored in that rematch. - Our offense, (1.446 points per possession) was our most efficient of the season, topping the Lafayette game (1.347).
