Team Stats:
(I’ve decided to put the team that won the stat in bold and ties in italics.)

POSSESSION

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)

We rebounded 6 of our 32 misses = 18.75%
They rebounded 12 of their 35 misses = 34.3%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)

We got 11 points on 6 O-Rebs = 1.833 points/O-reb
They got 9 points on 12 O-Rebs = 0.750 points/ O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)

We had 13 turnovers – 7 steals = 6 unforced
They had 12 turnovers – 8 steals = 4 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)

We had 8 points from 12 takeaways = 0.667 points/takeaway
They had 18 points from 13 takeaways = 1.385 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)

We had 19 points in 18 unsettled situations = 1.055 points
They had 27 points in 25 unsettled situations = 1.080 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)

We had 29 + 12 = 41
They had 38 + 13= 51

Scoring

Shooting
(shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)

We were 14 for 32 on twos, (43.8%), 7 for 18 on threes (38.9%) and 18 for 23 on frees (78.3%)
They were 16 for 37 on twos, (43.2%), 9 for 19 on threes (47.4%) and 14 for 24 on frees (58.3%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP –free throws made, TREY: points from three point shots, TZ= Twilight Zone, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers)

We had 20 PIP, 29 POP, 21 TREY, 8 TZ, 8 POTO, 2 FBP
They had 24 PIP, 35 POP, 27 TREY, 8 TZ, 11 POTO, 4 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)

We scored 2 FBP in 37 opportunities (5.4%)
They scored 4 FBP in 36 opportunities (11.1%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)

We had 36 FCP and 11 SCP
They had 54 FCP and 9 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)

Our starters scored 67 points and our bench scored 0 points
Their starters scored 53 points and their bench scored 20 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)

We assisted 9 of our 21 field goals = 42.9%
They assisted 20 of their 25 field goals = 80.0%

Team Offensive Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)

We scored 67 points in 68 possessions = 0.985 points/ possession
They scored 73 points in 67 possessions = 1.090 points/possession
It was a 135 possession game

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

14-20, 18-9, 12-14, 23-30

Fouls
(Two point shots, points in paint and free throws attempted per times fouled.)

We attempted 32 two point shots, scored 20 points in the paint, attempted 23 free throws and were fouled 16 times = 2.00; 1.25; 1.44
They attempted 37 two point shots, scored 24 points in the paint, attempted 24 free throws and were fouled 18 times = 2.06; 1.33; 1.33

We were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots or scoring in the paint and we got more free throws out of it when fouled.

Comments:

- We’d rebounded at least 32% of our shots in every game this year until tonight when we rebounded 18.75%.

- However we scored 11 points after those 6 offensive rebounds, our highest rate of cashing in of the season.

- But Wake countered by scoring 18 points off 13 turnovers, the highest rate we’ve given up this season. That gave them 27 points in unsettled situations to our 19.

- It was the first time we’d lost “manufactured possessions”, (one teams’ rebounds plus the other’s turnovers) all year and we lost it by 10: 41-51.

- We were out-scored in the paint, even in the twilight Zone and outscored from beyond the arc. We out-scored Wake from the foul line but only by 4: not enough.

- Bench Points is an over-rated stat but 0-20 is ridiculous.
