I will again be doing a report after each game this season and a summary report at the end of each month. (I’ve eliminated some stats from previous years to streamline this post.)
Net Points
(points + rebounds + assists + steals + blocks minus missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and personal fouls)
Jimmy Boeheim +15NP in 41 minutes = +189NP in 518 minutes = +14.6NP/40 for season
Cole Swider +14NP in 40 minutes = +190NP in 508 minutes = +15.0NP/40 for season
Buddy Boeheim +12NP in 44 minutes = +205NP in 563 minutes = +14.6NP/40 for season
Joe Girard +9NP in 41 minutes = +194NP in 509 minutes = +15.2NP/40 for season
Jesse Edwards +6NP in 20 minutes = +214NP in 416 minutes = +20.6NP/40 for season
Frank Anselem +3NP in 10 minutes = +38NP in 150 minutes = +10.1NP/40 for season
Symir Torrence +1NP in 5 minutes = +41NP in 171 minutes = +9.6NP/40 for season
Benny Williams -2NP in 24 minutes = +14NP in 207 minutes = +2.7NP/40 for season
DNP coach’s decision
John Bol Ajak 0NP in 0 minutes = +5NP in 13 minutes = +15.4NP/40 for season
Chaz Owens 0NP in 0 minutes = +4NP in 4 minutes = +40.0NP/40 for season
Bourama Sidibie 0NP in 0 minutes = 0NP in 5 minutes = 0.0NP/40 for season

Buddy Boeheim 17 points and 6 assists = 23
Shooting Efficiency
(Points minus missed field goal and free throw attempts)
Jimmy Boeheim 21 points – 8mfg – 0mft = +13
Scoring Efficiency
(Percentage of points scored divided by points they would have scored if they made every shot- minimum 10 possible points)
Jimmy Boeheim 21 points of 40 = 52.5%
My Man
(Who played the most minutes?)
Buddy Boeheim 44 minutes
TEAM STATS
Possession
Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)
We rebounded 15 of our 50 misses = 30.0%
They rebounded 7 of their 41 misses = 17.1%
Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)
We got 10 points on 15 O-Rebs = 0.667 points/O-Reb
They got 13 points on 7 O-Rebs = 1.857 points/O-Reb
Points per Takeover
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)
We had 14 points from 13 takeovers = 1.077 points/takeaway
They had 14 points from 9 takeovers = 1.556 points/takeaway
Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeover: [Second Chance Points+ Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)
We had 24 points in 28 unsettled situations = 0.857 points/situation
They had 27 points in 16 unsettled situations = 1.688 points/situation
Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)
We had 49 + 13 = 62
They had 42 + 9 = 51
Scoring
Shooting
(Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)
We were 19 for 46 on twos, (41.3%), 8 for 29 on threes (27.6%) and 12 for 14 on frees (85.7%)
They were 14 for 21 on twos, (66.7%), 11 for 37 on threes (29.7%) and 16 for 25 on frees (64.0%)
Points
(PIP= points in the paint, “The Inner Sanctum”
POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP -free throws made
OL= points from “The Outer Limits” (three point shots)
TZ= “Twilight Zone”, which is POP – TREY, (two point jumpers from outside the paint)
FT = Free Throws
We had 24 PIP, 38 POP, 24 OL, 14 TZ, 12 FT
They had 24 PIP, 37 POP, 33 OL, 4 TZ, 16 FT
Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)
We scored 8 FBP in 41 opportunities (19.5%)
They scored 7 FBP in 45 opportunities (15.6%)
First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)
We had 44 FCP and 10 SCP
They had 41 FCP and 13 SCP
Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)
Our starters scored 67 points and our bench scored 7 points.
Their starters scored 64 points and their bench scored 13 points.
Efficiency
Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)
We assisted 16 of our 27 field goals = 59.6%
They assisted 19 of their 25 field goals = 76.0%
Team Offensive Possession Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)
We scored 74 points in 76 possessions = 0.974 points/ possession
They scored 77 points in 76 possessions = 1.013 points/possession
It was a 152-possession game.
If we just use FGA + (47.5% FTA) and thus count an offensive rebound as an additional possession and a turnover as a lost possession:
We scored 74 points in 82 possessions = 0.902 points/ possession
They scored 77 points in 70 possessions = 1.100 points/possession
Team Shooting Efficiency
(Points minus missed field goals and free throws)
We scored 74 points, missed 48 field goals and missed 2 free throws = net +24
They scored 77 points, missed 33 field goals and missed 9 free throws = net +35
(Points scored divided by potential points scored if we’d made every shot)
We scored 74 on 46 two-point attempts, 29 three-point attempts and 14 free throw attempts = 74 of a possible 193 points = 38.3% of possible points scored.
They scored 77 on 21 two-point attempts, 37 three-point attempts and 25 free throw attempts = 77 of a possible 178 points = 43.3% of possible points scored.
Fouls
(Most fouls are called on two point shot attempts.)
We attempted 46 two-point shots and were fouled 11 times = 4.18
They attempted 21 two-point shots and were fouled 21 times = 1.00
If they’d attempted 46 two-point field goals at that rate, we’d have been fouled 46 times!!!
Comments:
- This was the third straight time we’ve won the rebounding battle- and lost the game.
- We had 28 ‘unsettled situations’ with the ball, (offensive rebounds and takeovers) and scored 24 points off them. The Deacons scored 27-point s when they had the ball in those situations – and there was only 16 of them.
- Wake was 3 for 6 from two-point range in the first half and 11/15, (73.3%), in the second half, largely, I think because of the absence of Jesse Edwards in the last 9 minutes.
- The difference in the ratio of fouls to two-point attempts, (4.18/1.00) is the greatest of the season.
