Take all the positives: points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks and subtract the negatives: missed field goals, miss free throws, turnovers and fouls. The result is “Net Points.” (NP). M = minutes. Dion Waiters +19NP in 32M season: +130NP in 246M per 40M: +21.1NP Kris Joseph +18NP in 32M season: +150NP in 319M per 40M: +18.8NP Scoop Jardine +17NP in 29M season: +113NP in 233M per 40M: +19.4NP James Southerland +11NP in 18M season: +113NP in 175M per 40M: +25.8NP CJ Fair +10NP in 29M season: +103NP in 269M per 40M: +15.3NP Baye Moussa Keita +4NP in 13M season: +49NP in 135M per 40M: +14.5NP Brandon Triche +3NP in 17M season: +94NP in 246M per 40M: +15.3NP Fab Melo +3NP in 26M season: +82NP in 249M per 40M: +13.2NP Rakeem Christmas 0NP in 2M season: +38NP in 139M per 40M: +10.9NP Michael Carter-Williams -1NP in 2M season: +45NP in 125M per 40M: +14.4NP Mookie Jones 0NP in 0M season: 0NP in 26M per 40M: 0.0NP Comment: We found out that JB will ahve a quick hook for younger players who don't show immediately that they are ready to contribute. Shooting Breakdown: SU was 24/37 from inside the arc, (.649), 11/25 from outside, (.440) and 7/13 from the line (.538). George Washington was 23/38 (.605), 7/14, (.500). and 5/8, (.625) 10 of our 35 baskets were assisted, (28.6%), vs. 21 of NC State’s 30, (70%). Rebounding: Syracuse had 11 offensive and 13 defensive rebounds. NC State had 8 offensive and 18 defensive rebounds. That means that when we missed, we got the rebound 38% of the time. When they missed, they got the rebound 38% of the time. NCState had 18 turnovers, of which 6 were Syracuse steals, (33%). Syracuse had 8 turnovers of which 3 were NC State steals, (38%). We had 42 “manufactured” possessions, (our rebounds + their turnovers). They had 34. And, thanks to Blacksquirrels and Knicks411, I now understand how to compute “points per possession, (field goal attempts – offensive rebounds + turnovers plus 47.5% of free throws attempted) and here they are: Syracuse: 62 FGA minus 11 offensive rebounds plus 8 turnovers plus 47.5% of 13 free throws = 65.175 possessions. The possessions can’t be more than one off so I’ll call that 65 possessions in which we scored 88 points or 1.354 points per possession. For the season it’s 1.174. NC State: 52-8+18 plus 47.5% of 8 = 65.8 possessions. Let’s call that 66 possessions, (so we won’t be more than one off) in which they scored 72 points or 1.091 points per possession. For the season it’s 0.854. Dry stretches were a problem last year- we’d go 8-10 minutes with the offense not functioning. I decided it should be a goal to score at least 15 points in every 10 minute “quarter” of the game, (college is the only level that doesn’t have quarters). You want to score more than that, of course, but if we can avoid falling under 15 in any ten minute period we should have a good scoring average because we’ll have 20 and 25 point quarters as well. The “quarterly” splits in this game were 17-24, 30-9, 16-25, 25-14. We’ve had 6 sub 15 point quarters this year, (but none in this game, which was key), and lost 8 quarters (of 44). The 30-9 quarter was our second best of the year. We outscored Colgate 32-6 in the second quarter of that game. 11-0 and 20 to go LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
