Team Stats:
(I’ve decided to put the team that won the stat in bold and ties in italics.)

POSSESSION

Rebounding
(Add each team’s offensive rebounds to their opponent’s defensive rebounds. Then figure the offensive rebounds as a percentage of that)

We rebounded 18 of our 50 misses = 36.0%
They rebounded 22 of their 50 misses = 44.0%

Effective Offensive Rebounding
(Divide second chance points by the offensive rebounds)

We got 12 points on 15 O-Rebs = 0.800 points/O-reb
They got 25 points on 23 O-Rebs = 1.087 points/ O-reb

Unforced Turnovers
(Total turnovers – the other team’s steals = unforced turnovers)

We had 19 turnovers – 8 steals = 11 unforced
They had 15 turnovers – 10 steals = 5 unforced

Points per Takeaway
(Points off turnovers divided by the number of turnovers the other team had)

We had 12 points from 15 takeaways = 0.800 points/takeaway
They had 31 points from 19 takeaways = 1.632 points/takeaway

Unsettled Situations
(Effective offensive rebounding + Points per Takeaway: [Second Chance Point + Points off Turnovers] divided by [Offensive Rebounds + Opposition Turnovers)

We had 24 points in 30 unsettled situations = 0.800 points
They had 56 points in 42 unsettled situations = 1.333 points

Manufactured Possessions
(One teams rebounds + the other team’s turnovers)

We had 43 + 15 = 58
They had 50 + 19= 69

Scoring

Shooting
(Shots made and attempted and the percentage for two point goal attempts, three point attempts and free throws)

We were 18 for 50 on twos, (36.0%), 8 for 17 on threes (47.1%) and 30 for 38 on frees (78.9%)
They were 22 for 50 on twos, (44.0%), 11 for 32 on threes (34.4%) and 24 for 34 on frees (70.6%)

Points
(PIP= points in the paint, POP = points outside the paint, which is total points – PIP –free throws made, TREY: points from three point shots, TZ= Twilight Zone, which is POP – TREY, two point jumpers from outside the paint, FBP = fast break points POTO= points off turnovers)

We had 26 PIP, 34 POP, 24 TREY, 10 TZ, 12 POTO, 4 FBP
They had 36 PIP, 41 POP, 33 TREY, 8 TZ, 31 POTO, 12 FBP

Fast Break Percentage
(FBP/(defensive rebounds + blocks + steals)

We scored 4 FBP in 40 opportunities (10.0%)
They scored 12 FBP in 40 opportunities (30.0%)

First Chance/Second Chance
(FCP is First Chance Points, which is total points - second chance points – fast break points – free throws made. SCP is second chance points.)

We had 44 FCP and 12 SCP
They had 40 FCP and 25 SCP

Starters/Bench
(Total points – bench points = starters points)

Our starters scored 81 points and our bench scored 9 points
Their starters scored 56 points and their bench scored 45 points

Assists
(The percentage of a team’s baskets that were assisted)

We assisted 8 of our 26 field goals = 30.8%
They assisted 23 of their 33 field goals = 69.2%

Team Offensive Efficiency
(Possessions: Field goals attempted - offensive rebounds + turnovers + 47.5% of free throws attempted. Efficiency is total points divided by possessions)

We scored 90 points in 89 possessions = 1.011 points/ possession
They scored 101 points in 90 possessions = 1.122 points/possession
It was a 179 possession game, 40 of which came in the two overtimes. (We are averaging 133 a game in regulation.)

Breakdown by Quarters
(Points scored between the beginning of the game and the 10 minute mark of the first half, then halftime, then the 10 minute mark of the second half, the end of regulation and then overtime of there was one)

5-9, 16-22, 27-10, 26-33 1st OT: 8-8, 2nd OT: 8-19

Fouls

(Two point shots, points in paint and free throws attempted per times fouled.)

We attempted 50 two point shots, scored 26 points in the paint, attempted 38 free throws and were fouled 25 times = 2.00; 1.04; 1.20
They attempted 50 two point shots, scored 36 points in the paint, attempted 34 free throws and were fouled 27 times = 1.85; 1.33; 0.89

They were more likely to get calls when attempting two point shots but we were scoring in the paint and got more free throws out of it when fouled.

Comments:

- It’s hard to overcome 11 unforced turnovers.

- They got 31 points off our 19 turnovers. That’s a lot of points, a lot of turnovers and quite a ratio, (1.632).

- They had 56 points (55% of their total) after offensive rebounds or turnovers. We had 24.

- We’re back to scoring in the TZ. We had 10 points from there for the second straight game after not reaching double figures since the Toledo game. For the year we are +70 from there, (142-72).

- Which is partially negated by the fact that we are -30 in fast break points, (92-122).

- We are 3-1-1 in first chance points in ACC games. We had one bad game vs. Wake Forest (36-54)

We are 138-118 in the other games. It’s an indicator our offense isn’t so bad. The problem is that’s only the 50.6% of the points scored in these games.

- The starter/bench breakdown tells us a lot about what happened in that second overtime: SU 81 + 9 = 90. FSU 56 +45 = 101.

- The 27-10 third quarter of this game was our best quarter of the year, topping a 25-11 quarter we had against Texas Southern.
