Take all the positives: points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks and subtract the negatives: missed field goals, miss free throws, turnovers and fouls. The result is “Net Points.” (NP). M = minutes.

Kris Joseph +20NP in 38M season: +229NP in 503M per 40M: +18.2NP
Brandon Triche +18NP in 28M season: +166NP in 374M per 40M: +17.8NP
Dion Waiters +17NP in 28M season: +202NP in 375M per 40M: +21.5NP
CJ Fair +9NP in 30M season: +167NP in 430M per 40M: +15.5NP
Baye Moussa Keita +7NP in 20M season: +70NP in 192M per 40M: +14.6NP
Fab Melo +5NP in 18M season:+161NP in 383M per 40M: +16.8NP
James Southerland +1NP in 9M season: +161NP in 266M per 40M: +24.2NP
Rakeem Christmas -3NP in 5M season: +50NP in 210M per 40M: +9.5NP
Scoop Jardine -6NP in 24M season: +165NP in 369M per 40M: +17.9NP
Michael Carter-Williams 0NP in 0M season: +73NP in 197M per 40M: +14.8NP
Mookie Jones 0NP in 0M season: +2NP in 30M per 40M: +2.7NP

Comment: Scoop Jardine';s NP per 40 has been runnign ahead of brandon's but broand nearly caught him on the season tonight. Having three guard who are averaging 17.9, 17.8 and 21.5 at this stage of the seasoln is amazing.

Shooting Breakdown: SU was 16/41 from inside the arc, (.390), 8/20 from outside, (.400) and 17/23 from the line (.739). Providence was 17/31 (.500), 6/26, (.231). and 14/23, (.609) 19 of our 24 baskets were assisted, (79%), vs. 14 of Marquette’s 23, (61%).

Rebounding: Syracuse had 14 offensive and 29 defensive rebounds. Marquette had 9 offensive and 27 defensive rebounds. That means that when we missed, we got the rebound 34% of the time. When they missed, they got the rebound 24% of the time. Marquette had 16 turnovers, of which 9 were Syracuse steals, (56%). Syracuse had 15 turnovers of which 11 were Marquette steals, (73%). We had 59 “manufactured” possessions, (our rebounds + their turnovers). They had 51.

And, thanks to Blacksquirrels and Knicks411, I now understand how to compute “points per possession, (field goal attempts – offensive rebounds + turnovers plus 47.5% of free throws attempted) and here they are:

Syracuse: 61 FGA minus 14 offensive rebounds plus 15 turnovers plus 47.5% of 23 free throws = 72.925 possessions. The possessions can’t be more than one off so I’ll call that 73 possessions in which we scored 73 points or 1.000 points per possession. For the season it’s 1.185.

Marquette: 57-9+16 plus 47.5% of 23 = 74.925 possessions. Let’s call that 74 possessions, (so we won’t be more than one off) in which they scored 66 points or 0.891 points per possession. For the season it’s 0.883.

Dry stretches were a problem last year- we’d go 8-10 minutes with the offense not functioning. I decided it should be a goal to score at least 15 points in every 10 minute “quarter” of the game, (college is the only level that doesn’t have quarters). You want to score more than that, of course, but if we can avoid falling under 15 in any ten minute period we should have a good scoring average because we’ll have 20 and 25 point quarters as well. The “quarterly” splits in this game were 18-12, 19-7, 14-23, 22-24. We’ve had 7 sub 15 point quarters this year and lost 14 quarters (of 68). Our three worst quarters fourth quarter of the Marshall game (18-28), the third quarter of the NC State game, (16-25) and the third quarter of the Marquette game. We’ve lost 6 third quarters all in the last ten games.

17-0 and 14 to go

LET’S GO ORANGE!!!

again a good analysis...i am still at a loss how Scoop plays so much in 2nd half when having a terrible game..EXCEPT FOR JB EVENING MINUTES AMONG HIS 3 TOP GUARDS...and this is not a reason to do so...Scoop did not have a good game...BT had a very good game...why was he on the sidelines for last 7 minutes...surely not JBs response in presser that he is more stable than either BT or Waiters...oh wait...3 assts and 6 TOs; 3 points and somewhat lacking defense...he may as JB says gets ball into the bigs better...but this wasnt the game to do so...I call out JB on this one
