Take all the positives: points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks and subtract the negatives: missed field goals, miss free throws, turnovers and fouls. The result is “Net Points.” (NP). M = minutes. Kris Joseph +25NP in 45M season: +334NP in 769M per 40M: +17.4NP Fab Melo +15NP in 39M season: +214NP in 512M per 40M: +16.7NP Brandon Triche +10NP in 21M season: +236NP in 562M per 40M: +16.8NP Dion Waiters +5NP in 35M season: +263NP in 574M per 40M: +18.3NP Scoop Jardine +4NP in 32M season: +240NP in 576M per 40M: +16.7NP CJ Fair +4NP in 38M season: +235NP in 641M per 40M: +14.7NP Michael Carter-Williams +1NP in 2M season: +97NP in 248M per 40M: +15.6NP Rakeem Christmas -1NP in 3M season: +92NP in 314M per 40M: +11.7NP James Southerland -1NP in 5M season: +188NP in 405M per 40M: +18.6NP Baye Moussa Keita -2NP in 5M season: +94NP in 310M per 40M: +12.1NP Comment: Kris had one of the most productive games of the season. But we need far bigger contributions from Christmas, Keita, Southerland and Carter Williams, (who after the St. John's game warrented more playing time than 2 mintues). Offensive Dude of the Game: Guess. KJ had no assists but he did have 29 points in 45 minutes the greatest total points and assists and the greatest rate of any of our players tonight, easily to win his 7th ODOG, and, strangely his first per 40 minute title. Dion still leads with 8 ODOGs. Shooting Breakdown: SU was 14/39 (.359- we are.538 for the season) from inside the arc, 8/24 from outside, (.333) and 12/16 from the line (.750). Georgetown was 16/42 (.381), 5/21, (.238). and 14/16, (.875) 14 of our 22 baskets were assisted, (64%), vs. 16 of Georgetown’s 21, (76%). Rebounding: Syracuse had 15 offensive and 20 defensive rebounds. Georgetown had 23 offensive and 29 defensive rebounds. That means that when we missed, we got the rebound 34% of the time. When they missed, they got the rebound 53.5% of the time. Georgetown had 15 turnovers, of which 6 were Syracuse steals, (40%). Syracuse had 9 turnovers of which 8 were Georgetown steals, (89%). We had 50 “manufactured” possessions, (our rebounds + their turnovers). They had 61. It was the fifth time and 4th in the last 6 games where the other team had more manufactured possessions than we did. It was also the second time in three games that the opposition rebounded more than half their own misses. And, thanks to Blacksquirrels and Knicks411, I now understand how to compute “points per possession, (field goal attempts – offensive rebounds + turnovers plus 47.5% of free throws attempted) and here they are: Syracuse: 63 FGA minus 15 offensive rebounds plus 9 turnovers plus 47.5% of 16 free throws = 64.6 possessions. The possessions can’t be more than one off so I’ll call that 64 possessions in which we scored 64 points or 1.000 points per possession. For the season it’s 1.154. Georgetown: 63-23+15 plus 47.5% of 16 = 62.6 possessions. Let’s call that 63 possessions, (so we won’t be more than one off) in which they scored 61 points or 0.968 points per possession. For the season it’s 0.905. Dry stretches were a problem last year- we’d go 8-10 minutes with the offense not functioning. I decided it should be a goal to score at least 15 points in every 10 minute “quarter” of the game, (college is the only level that doesn’t have quarters). You want to score more than that, of course, but if we can avoid falling under 15 in any ten minute period we should have a good scoring average because we’ll have 20 and 25 point quarters as well. The “quarterly” splits in this game were 12-15, 15-16, 19-13, 18-17. We’ve had 17 sub 15 point quarters this year and lost 26 quarters (of 100).
