Take all the positives: points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks and subtract the negatives: missed field goals, miss free throws, turnovers and fouls. The result is “Net Points.” (NP). M = minutes.

Fab Melo +15NP in 37M season: +235NP in 571M per 40M: +16.5NP
James Southerland +8NP in 18M season: +197NP in 428M per 40M: +18.4NP
Kris Joseph +8NP in 25M season: +351NP in 829M per 40M: +16.9NP
CJ Fair +7NP in 35M season: +268NP in 714M per 40M: +15.0NP
Dion Waiters +6NP in 31M season: +289NP in 635M per 40M: +18.2NP
Brandon Triche +5NP in 23M season: +241NP in 602M per 40M: +16.0NP
Baye Moussa Keita 0NP in 3M season: +94NP in 331M per 40M: +11.4NP
Rakeem Christmas 0NP in 2M season: +92NP in 318M per 40M: +11.6NP
Scoop Jardine -1NP in 26M season: +266NP in 632M per 40M: +16.8NP
Michael Carter-Williams 0NP in 0M season: +97NP in 250M per 40M: +15.5NP

Comment: Scoop Jardine went from 27 NP in one game, (thanks to 8 for 9 shooting) to -1 NP in the next game, (thanks to 0 for 8 shooting).

Offensive Dude of the Game: CJ Fair had 13 points and no assists, but that was enough- for gross figure. He did in in 35 minutes, (14.9 per 40 minutes) Brandon Triche had 8 points and 2 assists in 23 minutes ((17.4)

Shooting Breakdown: SU was 20/46 (.435: we are .535 on the year) from inside the arc, 1/15 from outside, (.067) and 9/11 from the line (.818). Louisville was 12/30 (.400), 5/19, (.263), and 12/21, (.588) 12 of our 21 baskets were assisted, (57%), vs. 10 of Louisville’s 17, (59%).

Rebounding: Syracuse had 16 offensive and 21 defensive rebounds. Louisville had 16 offensive and 24 defensive rebounds. That means that when we missed, we got the rebound 40% of the time. When they missed, they got the rebound 34% of the time. Louisville had 16 turnovers, of which 12 were Syracuse steals, (75%). Syracuse had 8 turnovers of which 3 were Louisville steals, (37.5%). We had 53 “manufactured” possessions, (our rebounds + their turnovers). They had 48.

And, thanks to Blacksquirrels and Knicks411, I now understand how to compute “points per possession, (field goal attempts – offensive rebounds + turnovers plus 47.5% of free throws attempted) and here they are:

Syracuse: 61 FGA minus 16 offensive rebounds plus 8 turnovers plus 47.5% of 11 free throws = 58.225 possessions. The possessions can’t be more than one off so I’ll call that 58 possessions in which we scored 52 points or 0.897 points per possession. For the season it’s 1.153.

Louisville: 49-16+16 plus 47.5% of 21 = 58.975 possessions. Let’s call that 59 possessions, (so we won’t be more than one off) in which they scored 51 points or 0.864 points per possession. For the season it’s 0.908.

Dry stretches were a problem last year- we’d go 8-10 minutes with the offense not functioning. I decided it should be a goal to score at least 15 points in every 10 minute “quarter” of the game, (college is the only level that doesn’t have quarters). You want to score more than that, of course, but if we can avoid falling under 15 in any ten minute period we should have a good scoring average because we’ll have 20 and 25 point quarters as well. The “quarterly” splits in this game were 7-13, 15-11, 16-11, 14-16. We’ve had 19 sub 15 point quarters this year and lost 28 quarters (of 108).
