Times Union All-Stars: boys' lacrosse Athlete of the Year: Lucas Quinn, Niskayuna Niskayuna junior Lucas Quinn recalled his mother decorating he and his older brother's room with Syracuse men's lacrosse gear, including posters and pillows, when he was in fifth grade. A few years later, Quinn made his oral commitment to play for the Orange before the start of his freshman season, his first year on varsity. "It was really exciting," said Quinn, a midfielder. "I think the coaches are awesome and the history of the program is better than any other one." Quinn was named a pre-season All-American this year after finishing his sophomore campaign with 44 goals and 35 assists. He improved those numbers this year in his third season with the Silver Warriors as he finished with 51 goals and 48 assists. Quinn credited his older brothers, John and Evan, for a considerable amount of his success. John is a former Hartford defender and Evan just finished his junior season as a goalie for Hartford. "I credit them for a lot of stuff I've learned," Lucas said. "We've been playing lacrosse in the yard together for as along as I can remember." Quinn played a big role in Niskayuna's run to the 2015 Class A state title. The Silver Warriors are the only lacrosse program from Section II — boys or girls — to claim a state championship. "That was the best memory of my life for sure," he said. This season didn't go exactly as planned for Quinn and his Niskayuna teammates as they suffered a stunning loss to rival Shenendehowa in the Section II final last month. Quinn believes that loss will drive the squad next season. "I think that's going to be in our minds next year," Quinn said. "I don't think anyone is going to forget the 2016 drought."
