2016 Capsules Coastals 10, Americans 9 (OT) In a fitting contest to help kick off the inaugural Inside Lacrosse Epoch Committed Academy, the Coastals needed overtime to beat the Americans 10-9. Midfielder Will Perry (UNC) scored on a topside bouncer off an assist from defenseman Nick DiPietro (Syracuse) for the win. DiPietro forced the turnover on the opposite end to set up the final shot, one of several caused turnovers by the Orange commitment in the game. The Americans (0-1) and the Coastals (1-0) went toe-to-toe offensively for the majority of the contest. Coastal attackman Joey Manown (Duke) led with four goals and an assist, including scoring the game-tying goal with :33 left in regulation. Clayton Burt (Syracuse) scored two goals, while Keaton Komatz (Notre Dame), Michael Guerin (UNC) and Blake Leischow (Duke) all contributed to the Coastal’s efforts. Attackman Dylan Rhatigan (UMass-Lowell), a shifty mover from X, led the Americans with three goals. (Midfielder Doug Goldsmith (Albany) added two, while Bryce Holak (UMass-Lowell), Connor Filipowski (Albany), John Hetrick (UMBC) and Brandon Beland (UMass-Lowell) all contributed offensively. In a fun face-off battle, midfielder Kyle Hyland (Notre Dame) bested T.D. Ierlan (Albany), winning 12-of-20 face-offs. American goalies Tyler Canto (UMass-Lowell) played well, combining for 14 saves. Midfielder Brian Ward (Yale) scored the game-winner on an alley runner to give the Ancients (1-1) its first victory of the Inside Lacrosse Epoch Committed Academy. Ward was the team’s offensive leader, scoring three goals, including the Ancients’ first two of the game. Future teammate Jackson Morrill (Yale) also scored two goals. Attackman Ryan Graff (Harvard) added two assists. Levi McCrady (Brown) and Lucas Cotler (Yale) also scored for the Ivy. Defensively, goalie Colton King (Sacred Heart), had a big second half with five saves. Coastals face-off midfielder Kyle Hyland (Notre Dame) once again was impressive, winning 11 attempts. Offensively, Peter Dearth (Syracuse) led with two goals. Clayton Burt (Syracuse), Joey Manown (Duke), Will Perry (UNC) and Keaton Komatz (Notre Dame) also scored for ACC. First-half goalie Luke Strang (Syracuse) also performed well, making a game-high seven saves. With the loss, the Coastals fall to 1-1 in the tournament. Coastals 4, Beasts 4 (stopped for weather) The day’s last big game between mixed rosters featuring the Coastals and the Beasts ended in a 4-4 tie before lightning ended the game prematurely. Owen Seebold (Syracuse) posted a goal and an assist to lead the ACC recruits’ scoring in the two halves, including a score on a fantastic drive from X to top side left. Face-off midfielder Kyle Hyland (Notre Dame), Jamie Trimboli (Syracuse) and Connor Morin (Notre Dame) all scored goals. For the Beasts, Luke Prybylski (Villanova), Joe Madsen (St. John’s), Kyle Smith (Denver) were among the goal scorers.
