That's what good coaches do. If you are paying any attention to recruiting you'll see that they go after a ton of high level kids from the immediate area, the first few rounds of offers are almost all NY, NE, PA and NJ. The other thing to remember is that existing relationships that the staff has with the recruiting networks of coaches, analysts, and scouts dictates where a lot of offers end up going because they have a richer body of information and often a better path to get in front of some of these more coveted recruits. It was clear early on that Dino understood this and factored it into his hiring decisions. Lustig had strong ties to PA, Reno and Chip West to the DMV (while not particularly local, very talent rich given proximity), and Ahmad, Campinale, and now Thomas to NJ. Let's not also forget that NJ is a notoriously difficult region to crack in terms of recruiting relationships. That was a glaring resource that dried up when Robinson took over the program, that elite talent flow from NJ pretty much dried up over night with the departure of DeLeone and Coach P.
