New starter announced...

First of many hopefully

It's a wild guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if SS put some/most of the team on notice that their positions are fully open to competition this week.

And he should, quite frankly.

Great move. It needed to be made. Really think Dixon is a nice upgrade.

Fine with it. Dixon kicks a weird, flat ball, but he gets it inside the 20 and NW's guys seemed to have issues fielding it.

I was at the game on Saturday, and it was apparent that the coaches benched several players in the second half--notably, the linebackers--after several botched coverages. And when the backups produced, I have to believe it puts the starters on notice.

At this point, the advantage of quality depth is that if you aren't producing, then you are at risk of being replaced and having your PT cut.

No issues with that.

They've both been terrible and unreliable in general. But Dixon had a nice game against NW and deserves the nod this week.

Dixon's definitely not been terrible. On five punts he has an average of 46, he's killed three inside the twenty and two were 50+ yards, and that's with him doing "short punting" duty vs. Penn State. He's been really good, the bad snap isn't his fault.

Agreed RF. My sense from watching the stream was that the D played better with Arceinga (sp) and Kirkland in the game. I am still not convinced that Spruill can play the mike, thought the same thing last year. I'd also like to see more rotations in the secondary. I know many think that the DBs were an area of strength, I don't.

Great, we plan on punting so much that we are concerned about who our punter is. I would prefer we change QB's, get the offense moving and have no idea who or how good our punter is. Does Oregon even have a punter, it didn't seem that NW did on Saturday.

I do know they have a PAT kicker/team and they were good from all the action that I saw.

I forgot until this morning that Dixon briefly left the team last year but decided to return to school.
Nice call, Riley.

When are they going to make the change at pk? Krautmann has rapidly declined each year.
