Nothing says empathy like an ad hominem attack on a sports message board. What 20-year old are you talking about? Rickie? My comment had nothing to do with Rickie. This was in response to the notion that we should not let any of the freshman QBs get PT because it would damage HIS confidence to play early and not succeed. Arch Manning has struggled this year. Not a freshman, not his first rodeo. If you want to be a QB to follow your "life long dreams," you better get real good at not letting failures stop you. Pitt's FR QB played well his first two games... then we hit him with a different defense and he had his worst game. I do not recall him pouting. He stayed in the game, played hurt, and got the win. This is a game where mental toughness must be among your best assets... might as well learn it now with less at stake. If Rickie had gotten more opportunities at LSU, he might have gotten to face some adversity. Instead, having NOT faced adversity yet on the field, now he must. How am I lacking empathy? What about empathy for Gill, Villari, and Cook, who are seeing their WR numbers nosedive? Or for Willis/Nixon... who have no running space? Are we really not making substitutions because it shows a lack of empathy? Is it more empathic to give someone a fish or teach them to fish? Giving someone a fish feeds them for a meal. Teaching them to fish could feed them for life. If someone asked you for a fish, responding by teaching them to fish would be the nicest thing one can do. Rickie was thrown out there to replace Angeli, who was replacing McCord. Rickie is neither and the play calls need to reflect that. Returning him to the bench for a spell could very well restore his life long dreams. Whatever offense they will let the freshmen run, perhaps Rickie can run THAT better. Maybe he will come in as a relief QB and finally have his success. In contrast, sending him out there to be booed against UNC is not helping his career or his mental state. If/when Carney gets in there and does no better (or worse), Rickie might get to be the hero to his teammates, fans, and self.
