Im going out on a limb but with the commitment of two solid RBs dont be shocked if Donte not Moe is moved to the slot position. Strickland is very good in space has the strength to get off the line and the speed to get vertical. Moe with another year would be the lightning back to compliment the new power backs.

I guess I don't see that in the cards for Strickland, especially if these guys show up in summer. Wouldn't make a lot of sense to shift the starting RB when the replacements are both unproven commodities [that is, unless JF works his way back into the picture in spring].

But Moe Neal 100% to the slot--agree with that.

Jordan has to take the #1 spot for Strick to move. If it were to happen i personnaly think Strick to slot is a great move. In his limited times split out catching the ball hes looked very good and hes a bear for the dbs to tackle. He needs to be in space.

Overall i think its better for the team if it shakes out this way.

I'd bet the new recruits take the RB positions first.

There'll be a huge learning curve with the O/checks not to mention the conditioning.

The one back all his highlights are from a power I. He doesnt even play in a shotgun single back O.

I figure with a bowl month and another spring that maybe JF steps up.

Strickland doesn't strike me as having the quick feet or pure speed to excel in the slot.

I agree and Strickland has been serviceable and hasn't been given a ton of help up front. I don't see Strickland going anywhere as far as position. He has also earned the starting role and don't see him getting passed by 2 true frosh RB's. We always over estimate the incoming talent and downplay what we have. Dino has him starting right now, Why would he switch positions, he obviously has a lot of qualities that the staff like, he may never be GREAT but he will get carries next year and the next as well, IMO

4 scholarship RB's are

Strickland
Daniels
Stritzinger
Pierre
A Walk On or 2

Most likely scenario IMO.

I would like to see Strick and Stritzinger both moved to safety, both were higher rated DB's than RB's coming out of highschool. Both would be an upgrade in size at the position. Maybe Stritz will have to be a Doug Hogue situation where he doesn't break the two deep before moving him from RB.

Depends on if you believe what they told those incoming recruits about position moves.

I keep hearing guys mention Strickland to slot. I dont understand. Strickland is going to get better and better as the line develops. He will get stronger and get better of reading the blocking scheme. He knows the calls, the checks and everything. Why move him to slot. He can catch the ball but he's not a natural receiver. He's the team leading rusher. You need a proven player coming back to that position. He has two years left.

Exactly!

Moe moving to the slot seems like an obvious move...kind of an Erv clone. With Riley along with recruits Nykeim and Sharod Johnson most likely headed to the slot...we look solid there.

That's why I think that if Strictland is to move (which IMO, is highly unlikely) he'll end-up at safety.

Strickland comes back quicker and 8-10 lb's stronger next year.

Still fully behind him as our next stud RB.

definitely more of a natural safety than WR. His HS film at safety was really good. In Lester's H back offense, his catches were on screens and swing passes. Doesnt mean he will be a good slot.

Not sure if this thread is the place for it but is anyone else surprised by the lack of a rotation with the skill players in general? I thought with this pace and the number of plays we're running every game that we'd see more carries spread around for the backs and more receivers shuttling in and out. The top four wideouts are getting nearly all of the playing time and there's not much of a rotation at RB.

Yes and no. Dino has said he doesn't like to sub because it allows the defense to sub, so the starters have to be able to go 8/10 plays in a row, maybe more idk.

however, 2 bowling green backs last year. 1 had 222 carries and the other 146 carries.

Ideally that, but I'd rather see Fredericks not transfer and become the power back. If it's truly not going to happen ever, then hopefully he can transfer somewhere that he can make a difference. If he does transfer, would be nice to see another upperclassman, either through JUCO or grad transfer. Would give at least one of the frosh, maybe 2 if we stay healthy the chance to redshirt.

Regardless, hope to never see these single season passing stats ever broken...
I.e. We never have this enemic of a running game ever again...

I don't see them as mutually exclusive. In other words, I think [with a better OL and a better threat of a running game], we can actually amass MORE passing yardage, and STILL run the ball effectively / opportunistically, burning teams who try to sell out to stop the pass.

That's what I think Babers is building toward.

Yeah, thought occurred to me after I hit post; would be beyond wild imagination...

In 2014, Baylor ran for 215 a game (good for 29th nationally) while passing for 365 (good for 4th nationally).

We are running for 129 (12th) while passing for 357 (5th nationally - and more than Baylor) currently.

Crazy numbers indeed.

If he is smart he will leave. I pray he does transfer.

"He's the team leading rusher..."
of course he is . strick has 114 carries ! neal has 44 and fredericks 22 and phillips 10. of that group he has the lowest avg and has only found the end zone twice. dino needs to spread the love a little more imo.
