Not sure this has been started yet, but now that Lydon & Battle have announced there are really very few unknowns with returning players for next year (unless Howard bolts, but that appears unlikely now based on comments made by Boeheim). Only unsettled situation is newcomers.
So here's what we know:
Backcourt Returners:
Howard (Jr.)
Battle (So.)
Backcourt Commitments:
Washington (Fr.)
Frontcourt Returners:
Chukwu (Jr.)
Thompson (So.)
Moyer (RFr.)
Frontcourt Incoming Signees:
Brissett (Fr.)
Sidibe (Fr.)
So as of now, we have three (3) left to give for the 2017-18 season to get back to 11. Then back to 12 for '18-19 before returning to the full allotment in '19-20.
If we could somehow land Jordan Tucker, I think he'd immediately be the odds-on favorite to win a starting forward spot opposite either Brissett or Moyer, with Thompson remaining at center. Chukwu & Sidibe will play 5 and backup that position.
If Howard/Battle backcourt remains intact and both can improve, that immediately makes our perimeter defense better without Gillon. And if we can somehow swing the Ayala recruitment, then we can have three guys who can play either of the two guard spots in a pinch and relegate Washington to a fourth guard role and allow him to develop at a normal pace.
The third scholarship is a wild card - can we convince Hameir Wright to come, or is Tucker/Wright an either/or at this point? Do we hold out for a fifth-year guard who can take the reigns at PG if Howard remains an enigma? Do we look for a PF-type who can help us on the boards since we are losing our best rebounder in Lydon?
A lot to be decided between now and September.
